Pig Farm Flex Auger Feed Line

Product Name Pig Farm Flex Auger Feed Line
Product Image pig farm flex auger feed line
Product Overview

The Pig Farm Flex Auger Feed Line is an enclosed dry-feed conveying system designed to transport feed from an external storage silo or intermediate hopper to feeders, feed dispensers or distribution points inside commercial pig houses.

A flexible, centerless spiral auger rotates inside a compatible conveying tube and moves feed continuously through straight sections, inclined sections and properly designed bends. The system is commonly used in nursery, grow-finish, sow and wean-to-finish facilities because it provides a simple and reliable method of automating bulk feed transfer.

The complete line can be configured according to pig house layout, silo position, feed type, conveying distance, outlet quantity and required delivery capacity. It can be incorporated into new pig farm construction, livestock equipment renovation and steel structure building projects.

Key Features
  • Flexible Spiral Conveying: A centerless auger follows suitable curved and inclined routes between the feed silo and pig house equipment.
  • Enclosed Feed Transport: Feed travels inside a closed tube, helping reduce contamination, weather exposure and unnecessary feed loss.
  • Suitable for Dry Feed: Can be configured for commonly used pig feed in meal, mash or pellet form according to particle size and conveying requirements.
  • Automatic Operation: Compatible level sensors and controllers can start and stop the drive unit automatically as feeders or receiving hoppers require feed.
  • High-Strength Auger: Spring-steel or equivalent high-strength augers provide flexibility together with resistance to repeated conveying loads.
  • Wear-Resistant Tubing: Agricultural PVC or other compatible conveying tubes are selected for impact resistance and long-term operation.
  • Flexible Barn Layout: Straight tubes, elbows, drops and extensions allow the line to adapt to different pig house layouts.
  • Reduced Manual Labor: Automatic feed transfer reduces manual carrying and routine feed distribution work.
  • Expandable Design: System length, outlet quantity and feeding sections can be customized according to project requirements.
Structural Components
  • Feed Silo: Stores bulk dry feed outside or adjacent to the livestock building.
  • Silo Boot / Transition: Transfers feed from the silo cone into the auger conveying tube.
  • Flexible Auger: Rotating spiral element responsible for conveying feed through the pipeline.
  • Conveying Tube: Straight PVC or compatible tubing contains the auger and provides an enclosed feed path.
  • Elbows / Curved Tubes: Allow controlled directional changes in the conveying route.
  • Drive Unit: Geared electric motor rotates the auger at the required operating speed.
  • Outlet Drops: Direct feed from the main conveying tube to feeders, volumetric dispensers or receiving hoppers.
  • Level Sensor: Detects feed level at the terminal feeder or hopper and can control automatic system operation.
  • Control Panel: Provides electrical protection, start-stop control and optional automatic operating functions.
  • Suspension and Support Components: Chains, brackets and structural supports maintain proper tube alignment throughout the pig house.
Working Principle

Dry feed enters the conveying line through the silo boot or receiving hopper. When the drive motor starts, the flexible spiral auger rotates inside the enclosed tube.

The rotating auger moves feed along the tube toward the pig house. Feed is discharged through designated outlet openings and drop tubes into feeders, feed dispensers or intermediate receiving hoppers.

A feed level sensor can be installed at the terminal receiving point. When feed drops below the preset level, the control system starts the auger. When the required feed level is restored, the sensor signals the system to stop.

This operating principle allows automatic feed replenishment while reducing unnecessary motor operating time and minimizing manual intervention.

Installation & Maintenance

Route Planning: Confirm the silo location, building entry point, feeder arrangement, total conveying length, elevation changes and required bends before installation.

Structural Support: Long outdoor sections and suspended indoor lines require properly spaced supports. Steel structure building members should be checked before supporting elevated feed lines.

Tube Installation: Conveying tubes and elbows should be aligned smoothly to minimize unnecessary friction and auger wear. Outdoor joints should be protected against moisture penetration.

Auger Installation: The flexible auger must be installed without damaging or permanently deforming the spiral and should match the selected tube system.

Electrical Commissioning: The drive motor, overload protection, sensors and control panel should be tested before normal automatic operation.

Routine Maintenance: Periodically inspect the auger, elbows, drive unit, bearings, tube connections, suspension components, outlet drops and sensors. High-wear curved sections should receive particular attention during preventive maintenance.

Project Applications

For a typical commercial pig farm, the flex auger line can transport feed directly from an outdoor silo into the livestock building and distribute it to multiple feeders or feed dispensers. The line can be routed above pens to maintain clear working areas and simplify daily management.

For larger production sites, separate flex auger lines can serve different barns, animal groups or feed formulas. Final routing, conveying capacity and control logic should be engineered according to the farm layout, feed characteristics and production requirements.

Commercial Farm Benefits
  • Automates feed movement from bulk storage to livestock buildings.
  • Reduces manual feed handling and labor requirements.
  • Supports regular feeder replenishment throughout the pig house.
  • Enclosed conveying helps protect feed from rain and external contamination.

  • Can support centralized feed storage outside livestock houses.
  • Suitable for expansion and modernization of commercial feeding systems.
  • Can be combined with feed level sensors and farm control equipment for automated operation.
Product FAQ

Q: What is a flex auger feed line?

A: It is an enclosed feed conveying system that uses a flexible spiral auger rotating inside a tube to move dry feed from a silo or hopper to feeders and feed dispensers.

Q: Is the system suitable for pig farms?

A: Yes. Flexible auger systems are widely used for nursery, grow-finish, sow and other commercial pig production applications.

Q: Can the feed line go around bends?

A: Yes. Properly selected curved tube sections allow the flexible auger to follow suitable directional changes. The number and radius of bends must be considered when calculating system capacity and maximum line length.

Q: Can it convey both pellets and meal feed?

A: Suitable flex auger systems can handle common dry pig feeds, including meal, mash and pellets. Feed particle size, bulk density and formulation should be confirmed before final system selection.

Q: Can the system operate automatically?

A: Yes. Feed level sensors, relays and control panels can automatically start and stop the auger according to feed demand.

Q: Can a flex auger line be installed in an existing pig house?

A: Yes. Retrofit installations are possible when suitable routing, suspension points, electrical supply and structural support are available.

Q: What information is required for quotation?

A: Please provide pig house dimensions, silo position, feed type, required conveying capacity, total route length, elevation changes, number of bends, feeder quantity, outlet quantity, voltage and an available farm layout drawing.
