Working Principle The valve uses a pilot-operated diaphragm principle. When livestock consume water and the trough level falls, the float moves downward and actuates a small pilot valve. The resulting pressure change causes the main diaphragm to open, allowing a large volume of water to enter the trough or tank.

As the water level rises, the float moves upward toward its preset shut-off position. The pilot valve then closes, pressure is restored across the diaphragm and the main water passage closes progressively. The controlled closing action reduces sudden hydraulic shock and helps protect pumps, pipelines and fittings from excessive water hammer.
