Product Overview

The Manure Belt Drive & Tension Unit is a key mechanical module of an automatic poultry manure removal system. Installed at the end of a cage row, it provides the traction, pressure and belt adjustment required to move the manure belt smoothly beneath each cage tier.

The system typically combines a geared motor, drive roller, pressure or snub roller, tension adjustment mechanism, bearings, scraper assembly and galvanized supporting frame. Correct coordination between these components helps maintain sufficient belt traction while reducing slipping and lateral belt deviation.

Designed for commercial layer, pullet and breeder cage installations, the unit can be matched to different cage-row lengths, belt widths, tier quantities and manure discharge arrangements. It can also be integrated with transverse and inclined manure conveyors to form a complete automatic manure handling system.

Key Features
  • Reliable Belt Traction: Drive and pressure rollers maintain contact with the manure belt for stable conveying.
  • Adjustable Belt Tension: Mechanical adjustment allows tension to be corrected during installation and routine maintenance.
  • Belt Tracking Adjustment: Roller alignment can be fine-tuned to help keep the manure belt centered during operation.
  • Independent Tier Operation: Multi-tier systems can be configured with separate drive units for individual manure belts.
  • Geared Motor Drive: Provides controlled low-speed torque suitable for poultry manure conveyor applications.
  • Roller Cleaning: Scraper components help prevent manure accumulation on rollers and belt surfaces.
  • Corrosion-Resistant Frame: Galvanized or coated structural components are suitable for demanding poultry-house environments.
  • Modular Construction: Simplifies integration with new cage systems and replacement of service components.
  • Automatic Manure Handling: Supports regular manure removal with reduced manual cleaning requirements.
  • Project Integration: Can connect with longitudinal belts, cross conveyors, inclined conveyors and manure loading systems.

Working Principle

During manure removal, the geared motor rotates the drive roller. The manure belt is pressed against the drive roller by the pressure or snub roller, creating the friction required to pull the belt along the full length of the poultry cage row.

As the belt reaches the discharge end, manure is removed from the belt surface by a scraper and discharged to a cross conveyor, inclined conveyor, manure pit or other downstream handling equipment.

The tension mechanism maintains appropriate longitudinal belt tension. Tracking adjustment allows small corrections to roller alignment when the belt begins moving toward one side. Proper and equal adjustment helps reduce slipping, edge wear and premature belt damage.

In multi-tier cage installations, each belt can be driven independently or configured according to the project control strategy, allowing individual tiers to be cleaned when required.

Installation & Maintenance

The drive unit should be aligned accurately with the manure belt and cage-row centerline. Initial belt tension and roller pressure should be adjusted evenly on both sides before full-load operation.

  • Install the supporting frame on a level and structurally secure foundation.
  • Align drive, pressure and return rollers with the manure belt centerline.
  • Confirm that both sides of the belt have appropriate and balanced tension.
  • Check belt tracking during initial low-speed operation.
  • Adjust tracking gradually if the belt moves toward one side.
  • Keep drive and pressure rollers free from manure accumulation.
  • Inspect scrapers regularly and maintain proper contact with the belt.
  • Check bearings, transmission components and fasteners periodically.
  • Inspect the belt for slipping, edge wear, tears or abnormal stretching.
  • Keep motor and electrical connections protected from water during cleaning.
  • Disconnect and isolate electrical power before maintenance or adjustment.
  • Check the tension and tracking again before starting each new flock.
Product FAQ

Q1: What is the function of a manure belt drive and tension unit?

It powers the manure belt and maintains the roller pressure, tension and alignment required for stable manure conveying.

Q2: Why is correct manure belt tension important?

Correct tension helps maintain traction while reducing slipping, poor tracking and unnecessary stress on the belt and drive components.

Q3: Can belt tracking be adjusted?

Yes. Suitable drive units incorporate mechanical adjustment points that allow the belt position to be corrected when lateral deviation occurs.

Q4: Can each cage tier have an independent drive?

Yes. Multi-tier manure belt systems can be configured with separate drive units and motors for individual tiers according to the cage design.

Q5: What causes a manure belt to slip?

Common causes include insufficient roller pressure, incorrect tension, wet or dirty drive rollers, excessive manure loading or improper alignment.

Q6: Can the unit connect to a cross manure conveyor?

Yes. The discharge end can be coordinated with transverse or inclined conveyors for centralized manure transport outside the poultry house.

Q7: Is the system suitable for long poultry cage rows?

Yes, but motor capacity, roller design, belt specification and tension arrangement must be selected according to the actual row length and manure load.

Q8: Can SHEWUYOU supply the complete manure belt system?

Yes. Manure belts, drive and tension units, return rollers, scrapers, supporting structures, cross conveyors and control equipment can be configured according to project requirements.
