The system typically combines a large-diameter nipple pipe with pendulum-operated nipple valves and reinforced drinking cups. When a turkey moves the pendulum with its head, one or more nipple valves are actuated and water flows down the pendulum into the cup, providing an accessible open-water source while limiting unnecessary overflow. | Working Principle |
Filtered and pressure-regulated water enters the drinking line through the front water-supply system and flows through the nipple pipe above each turkey drinking cup. When a turkey places its head in the cup and moves the pendulum sideways, the pendulum actuates the nipple valve. Water flows along the pendulum and is directed into the cup where the bird can drink comfortably. When sufficient water remains in the cup, birds can drink directly without continuously operating the nipple. This helps limit unnecessary overflow. Once water demand increases again, movement of the pendulum reactivates the water supply. Correct drinking-line height is essential. The cup should be positioned so birds can drink naturally while minimizing splashing. During flock growth, the suspended drinking line is progressively raised to maintain the correct relationship between bird height and drinking cup position. |
