Product Overview

The Low-Level Frost-Free Sheep Drinker is a heated automatic livestock watering unit designed for goat-farming-equipment/" target="_blank" class="keylink">sheep, goats, calves and other smaller animals requiring a reduced drinking height. Its low-profile configuration improves animal access while maintaining reliable automatic water supply during cold-weather operation.

The drinking system combines a stainless steel trough with a fully insulated polyethylene casing. Thermostatically controlled heating elements are positioned beneath the trough to help prevent freezing, while additional protection can be applied around the valve and vertical supply line according to winter conditions.

A quick-refill float valve maintains the preset water level automatically as livestock drink. The compact reservoir promotes regular water turnover and makes the unit suitable for commercial sheep farms, goat facilities, lambing barns, outdoor paddocks and steel structure livestock buildings in regions with freezing winters.

Key Features
  • Low Drinking Height: Reduced drinking edge provides convenient access for sheep, goats, calves and other smaller livestock.
  • Integrated Frost Protection: Thermostatically controlled heating elements beneath the stainless steel trough support reliable winter operation.
  • Fully Insulated Housing: Durable insulated poly construction helps limit heat loss and improve energy efficiency.
  • Stainless Steel Trough: Provides a durable, corrosion-resistant and easy-to-clean animal drinking surface.
  • Automatic Quick Refill: Float-controlled valve restores water automatically as livestock drink.
  • Low Water Volume: Compact reservoir supports faster water turnover and reduces unnecessary standing water.
  • Protected Valve Area: Internal water-control components are separated from direct livestock contact.
  • Rounded Livestock-Safe Design: Smooth edges help reduce sharp contact points around the drinking area.
  • Service-Friendly Construction: Internal valve, heating and plumbing components are accessible for routine inspection and maintenance.
  • Ready for Farm Installation: Suitable for integration with livestock water pipelines, concrete foundations and steel structure farm buildings.
Structural Components
Component Function
Stainless Steel Drinking Trough Provides the livestock drinking surface and transfers heat efficiently from the under-trough heating elements.
Insulated Polyethylene Body Helps reduce heat transfer between the internal water system and cold outside air.
Thermostatic Heating Elements Provide automatic heating beneath the trough when temperatures require frost protection.
Float Valve Assembly Controls incoming water according to the preset water level.
Valve Chamber Protects the float valve, inlet connection and associated service components.
Insulated Top Cover Helps retain heat around internal plumbing while providing maintenance access.
Cable Heater / Supply-Line Protection Provides additional freeze protection around the valve and vertical water supply line where required.
Drain Assembly Allows the trough to be emptied for cleaning, servicing and seasonal maintenance.
Anchoring Points Allow secure attachment to a suitable concrete foundation.
Working Principle / Structural Principle

During normal operation, the drinking trough is connected to the farm water supply. As sheep consume water, the float level falls and mechanically opens the inlet valve. Fresh water enters until the preset operating level is restored, after which the float closes the valve automatically.

For cold-weather operation, thermostatically controlled heating elements mounted beneath the stainless steel trough activate according to temperature conditions. Heat transfers directly to the trough and water, helping prevent ice formation while avoiding unnecessary continuous heating when temperatures are above the thermostat setting.

The insulated body reduces heat loss, while an appropriately designed thermal riser and cable-heater arrangement can protect the valve and incoming water line from freezing. Correct foundation sealing and supply-line installation are important parts of the complete frost-protection system.

  • Foundation and anchoring arrangement
  • OEM identification and export packaging

The final frost-protection system should be designed according to local climate, frost depth, livestock-house construction and farm conditions.

Installation & Maintenance

Foundation Preparation: Install the drinker on a level concrete pad with adequate anchoring. The foundation should provide drainage and prevent cold air from entering beneath the waterer.

Water-Line Protection: Route the vertical supply pipe through an appropriately sized insulated thermal riser. Water-line depth and frost protection should comply with local winter conditions.

Electrical Installation: Heating components should be connected through an appropriately protected electrical circuit. Installation must comply with applicable local electrical regulations and should be completed by qualified personnel.

Base Sealing: Seal the interface between the drinking unit and concrete pad as required to limit cold-air infiltration into the valve and water-line chamber.

Water-Level Adjustment: Adjust the float valve to maintain sufficient drinking depth without excessive water storage or overflow.

Routine Cleaning: Drain and clean the stainless steel trough periodically to remove sediment, feed particles, algae and organic contamination.

Pre-Winter Inspection: Before freezing temperatures arrive, test the thermostat, heating elements and cable heater, inspect the float and valve, and confirm that the supply-line protection system is functioning correctly.

Project Cases

Low-level frost-free sheep drinkers can be integrated into complete cold-climate livestock projects together with galvanized sheep pens, feeding systems, water pipelines, drainage systems and insulated steel structure buildings. Drinking-point quantity, electrical load and water-line protection can be coordinated during farm design according to flock size and local winter conditions.

Product FAQ

Q: What makes this sheep drinker frost-free?
A: The system combines an insulated housing with thermostatically controlled heating beneath the stainless steel trough. Appropriate protection of the valve and incoming water line completes the cold-weather installation.

Q: Why is the drinking height lower than a standard livestock waterer?
A: The reduced drinking height is designed for shorter animals such as sheep, goats and calves, allowing easier access to the trough.

Q: Does the heater operate continuously?
A: Thermostatic control allows heating to operate according to temperature conditions rather than requiring unrestricted continuous heating.

Q: Does the water refill automatically?
A: Yes. A mechanical float valve opens as the water level falls and closes after the preset level is restored.

Q: Can it be used outdoors during winter?
A: Yes, when the unit, foundation, water line and electrical system are correctly installed for the local climate and frost depth.

Q: Can the voltage and heating configuration be customized?
A: Electrical and heating configurations can be selected according to project requirements and applicable local standards.

Q: Can SHEWUYOU supply a complete cold-climate sheep farm watering system?
A: Yes. Waterers can be integrated with water pipelines, penning, feeding systems, drainage and steel structure livestock buildings according to project requirements.
