Heavy-Duty Silo Weighing Module

Product Name Heavy-Duty Silo Weighing Module
Product Image heavy-duty silo weighing module
Product Overview

The Heavy-Duty Silo Weighing Module is designed for direct weight measurement of feed silos used in commercial pig farms, poultry farms and other intensive livestock production facilities. The module combines a load cell with a mechanically engineered mounting assembly so the weight carried by each silo support leg can be measured accurately and safely.

Installed between the silo support structure and its foundation or supporting frame, the weighing module transfers vertical load to the sensor while helping control unwanted forces caused by structural movement, vibration or environmental conditions. Multiple modules are normally installed under the silo legs to create a complete silo weighing system.

The system is suitable for new pig farm construction, livestock equipment upgrades, automatic feed storage projects and steel structure building applications. Capacity, mounting configuration and material can be customized according to silo size, structural load and project requirements.

Key Features
  • Heavy-Duty Load Measurement: Designed to support substantial silo loads while providing stable weighing signals.
  • Integrated Load Cell Mounting: Combines sensing and structural mounting components for easier installation and reliable force transfer.
  • High Weighing Stability: Mounting geometry helps reduce the influence of side forces and structural movement on measurement performance.
  • Feed Inventory Monitoring: Supports direct measurement of feed weight for more accurate inventory management than visual level estimation alone.
  • Commercial Farm Durability: Stainless steel or protected structural components can be selected for demanding agricultural environments.
  • Multi-Leg Silo Compatibility: Suitable for common three-leg, four-leg, six-leg or project-specific silo support structures.
  • Retrofit Potential: Can be adapted to suitable existing silos after structural assessment.
  • System Integration: Can be connected with weight indicators, transmitters, PLC systems and farm management platforms according to project requirements.
Structural Components
  • Load Cell: Converts mechanical force from the silo support leg into an electrical weighing signal.
  • Upper Mounting Plate: Transfers the load from the silo leg into the weighing module.
  • Lower Base Plate: Provides a stable connection between the weighing module and the concrete foundation or supporting steel frame.
  • Load Transfer Assembly: Maintains controlled vertical force transmission to the load cell.
  • Anti-Lift / Restraint Components: Can help control structural displacement, uplift or lateral movement depending on module design.
  • Mechanical Stops: Optional overload or movement-limiting components can be included according to engineering requirements.
  • Signal Cable: Transfers the load-cell output to a junction box, weighing indicator or controller.
Working Principle

Each silo support leg rests on a weighing module. The combined weight of the silo structure and stored feed creates a vertical force that passes through the mounting assembly to the load cell.

The load cell produces an electrical signal proportional to the applied force. Signals from all silo support points are combined through a junction box and processed by a compatible weighing indicator, transmitter or controller.

After zero adjustment and system calibration, the total silo weight can be determined. By subtracting the known tare weight of the empty silo, the system can calculate the net amount of stored feed and track weight changes during feeding or refilling operations.

Installation & Maintenance

Structural Evaluation: Before installation, confirm the silo tare weight, maximum stored feed weight, number of support legs, foundation condition and expected environmental loads.

Module Positioning: Install one weighing module beneath each designated silo support point. The upper and lower mounting surfaces should be aligned so the primary load passes vertically through the weighing assembly.

Mechanical Isolation: Feed pipes, electrical conduits and other connections to the silo should not introduce uncontrolled forces that could affect weighing performance.

Calibration: Complete zero adjustment and calibration after mechanical installation and before normal feed storage operation.

Routine Maintenance: Inspect mounting bolts, structural connections, sensor cables, junction boxes and module surfaces periodically. Check for corrosion, physical damage, abnormal movement or accumulated material around the weighing assembly.

Project Cases

A referenced commercial pig farming project required precise weighing of 14 feed silos with capacities ranging from approximately 5 t to 15 t.

The weighing solution used four stainless steel load cells and four stainless steel mounting kits for each silo. Load-cell capacities of 2 t or 5 t were selected according to the silo size, together with a dedicated weight indicator.

The project demonstrated how individual livestock feed silos can be converted into complete weighing systems for accurate feed inventory monitoring while maintaining a robust and practical installation structure.

Product FAQ

Q: What is a silo weighing module?

A: It is a mechanical weighing assembly containing a load cell and mounting components. It is installed beneath a silo support point to measure the force generated by the silo and its contents.

Q: How many weighing modules are required for one silo?

A: The number generally depends on the silo support-leg arrangement. A four-leg silo commonly uses four weighing modules, while other silo structures may require a different configuration.

Q: Can the module be used on heavy commercial feed silos?

A: Yes. Heavy-duty modules can be selected according to the maximum structural load. The referenced pig farm project used 2 t and 5 t load cells for silos with capacities from approximately 5 t to 15 t.

Q: Can existing silos be converted into weighing silos?

A: In many projects, yes. The foundation, silo legs, support geometry and available installation space must first be evaluated to confirm that weighing modules can be safely incorporated.

Q: Why is a mounting module required instead of installing a load cell alone?

A: A correctly engineered mounting assembly improves load transfer, alignment and structural restraint while reducing unwanted forces that can affect weighing accuracy and load-cell reliability.

Q: What information is needed for system selection?

A: Please provide silo capacity, empty silo weight if available, number and dimensions of support legs, maximum feed load, foundation design, installation environment, required accuracy and controller integration requirements.
