The Gilt Development Pen is a modular group-housing system designed for replacement gilts during growth, selection, acclimation and preparation for entry into the breeding herd.
The pen can combine solid plastic panels, reinforced panel-and-steel-bar partitions, galvanized structural posts and open contact grids to create a strong yet flexible housing layout. Different partition configurations allow farms to balance separation, ventilation, visibility and animal contact according to each management zone. Gilt development facilities require convenient access for feeding, drinking, body-condition evaluation, locomotion assessment, health observation, vaccination, boar exposure and estrus detection. The modular pen structure allows these functional areas to be incorporated into new commercial sow farms or existing barn renovation projects. Pen dimensions, gate positions, feeding interfaces, drinking equipment and floor fixing systems can be customized according to gilt size, group size, barn dimensions, production flow and applicable local requirements. |

Replacement gilts are housed in managed groups where they can move freely between feeding, drinking, resting and activity areas. The pen system creates defined group boundaries while providing farm personnel with convenient access for routine inspection and selection.
Solid lower panels reduce direct interference between neighboring groups, while open steel-bar or contact-grid sections can improve air circulation and allow controlled visual or physical contact where required. The structural load generated by active gilts is transferred through reinforced panels and steel members to floor-mounted posts and anchors. Higher stabilization posts and horizontal galvanized pipes can be incorporated where additional rigidity is required. The modular principle allows gates, partitions and functional areas to be positioned according to gilt flow. Dedicated routes can be created for weighing, sorting, vaccination, boar exposure, estrus detection and transfer to the mating unit. |
