Product Overview

The Wet-Dry Feeder Nipple Drinker is a high-capacity water valve designed for vertical mounting inside pig wet-dry feeders, feeding pans and compatible water cups. Pigs activate the valve by touching the stem with the nose, releasing water directly into the feeder pan.

Its stainless steel construction and simple springless internal design provide dependable operation in intensive commercial pig houses while helping integrate feed and water access at the same feeding station.

Key Features
  • Wet-Dry Feeder Application: Designed to deliver water directly into the feed pan or trough.
  • Nose-Activated Valve: Pigs easily start water flow by touching the exposed stem.
  • High-Capacity Delivery: Factory-calibrated reference flow supports commercial swine drinking requirements.
  • Springless Design: Simple valve construction avoids conventional springs, screens and fixed flow orifices.
  • Adjustable Flow: Water output can be modified through the valve retainer adjustment.
  • Stainless Steel Construction: Suitable for humid, corrosive livestock-house environments.
  • Standard Thread Connection: 1/2-inch male pipe thread simplifies installation in feeder water systems.
Structural Components
  • Stainless Steel Valve Body: Forms the durable pressure-containing housing.
  • Activation Stem: Operated by the pig's nose to open the water passage.
  • Internal Valve Assembly: Controls water delivery without a conventional spring mechanism.
  • Retainer Adjustment: Allows the flow rate to be fine-tuned.
  • Threaded Inlet: Connects the nipple to the feeder water pipe or mounting fitting.
Working Principle / Structural Principle

The nipple is mounted vertically above or within the wet-dry feeder pan. When a pig pushes the exposed stem with its nose, the internal valve opens and water flows downward into the feeding area.

When the pig releases the stem, the valve closes. The flow rate can be adjusted through the retainer mechanism, allowing the watering system to be matched to water pressure, pig size and farm management requirements.

Installation & Maintenance

Installation:

  • Install the nipple vertically in the feeder water bar or compatible threaded fitting.
  • Position the activation stem where pigs can easily contact it while eating.
  • Flush the supply line before commissioning the feeder.
  • Confirm water pressure and test flow into the feed pan.
  • Adjust the retainer setting where necessary to obtain suitable water delivery.

Maintenance:

  • Check nipple operation and shutoff during routine barn inspections.
  • Remove feed buildup and mineral deposits around the activation stem.
  • Flush water lines after medication or prolonged shutdown.
  • Inspect threaded connections for leakage.
  • Verify water output periodically as farm water pressure changes.
Product FAQ

Q1: What is this nipple drinker designed for?

It is primarily designed for vertical installation in wet-dry pig feeders and compatible swine water cups.

Q2: How does the pig activate the water?

The pig touches or pushes the exposed stem with its nose, causing water to flow into the feeder pan.

Q3: What is the reference water flow?

The reference Edstrom configuration is factory calibrated at approximately 2 quarts per minute at 40 psi.

Q4: Can the flow rate be adjusted?

Yes. Flow can be adjusted by changing the retainer setting rather than replacing fixed flow orifices.

Q5: Does the valve use an internal spring?

The reference design operates without a conventional spring, flow orifice or protective screen.

Q6: What connection size is used?

The reference nipple uses a standard 1/2-inch male pipe-thread connection.

Q7: What information is required for a quotation?

Please provide pig production stage, required quantity, feeder type, number of feeding spaces, water pressure, pipe connection and project location.
