Product Overview

The Sow Trigger Nipple Drinker is a heavy-duty water valve designed for installation inside sow drinking bowls and cup-waterer systems. It is particularly suitable for farrowing and breeding units where reliable water supply and reduced spray are important for maintaining dry, hygienic pens.

A forward-positioned spring allows the sow to activate the trigger without heavily compressing the spring, helping reduce mechanical fatigue. When activated, water flows through the front of the nipple in a steady stream that fills the drinking bowl rather than spraying across the pen.

Stainless steel construction, a chemical-resistant Viton sealing ring and wrench flats support durability, convenient maintenance and installation in intensive commercial pig-production environments.

Key Features
  • Designed specifically for sow bowl and cup drinking systems.
  • Forward-spring structure helps reduce spring compression fatigue.
  • Steady water stream helps minimize spraying and water wastage.
  • Helps maintain drier farrowing and breeding pens.
  • Heavy-duty stainless steel construction for corrosion resistance.
  • Durable Viton O-ring resists common cleaning agents and farm chemicals.
  • Multiple internal orifice settings allow water-flow adjustment.
  • Flat wrench surfaces simplify installation and replacement.
  • Suitable for stainless steel water pipes and sow drinking bowls.
  • Designed for demanding commercial swine-farm environments.
Structural Components
  • Stainless Steel Body: Provides structural strength and resistance to corrosion.
  • Trigger Stem: Activated by the sow to release drinking water.
  • Forward Spring: Controls valve closure while reducing direct spring compression during drinking.
  • Flow Orifice: Controls the volume of water delivered when activated.
  • Viton O-Ring: Provides reliable sealing and chemical resistance.
  • Filter Screen: Helps prevent larger debris from entering the valve mechanism.
  • Threaded Connection: Allows connection to compatible water pipes and bowl assemblies.
  • Wrench Flats: Provide secure tool engagement during installation.
Working Principle

When the sow pushes the trigger stem, the internal valve opens and water passes through the front section of the nipple. The flow is directed downward into the drinking bowl as a relatively even stream.

After the animal releases the trigger, spring force returns the internal valve to the closed position. The forward-spring configuration reduces the amount of direct compression applied to the spring during repeated drinking cycles.

Different flow-orifice settings can be selected to match water pressure, sow requirements and farm drinking-system design.

Installation & Maintenance

Installation:

  • Install the nipple into a compatible 1/2 in female-threaded pipe or sow bowl assembly.
  • Use the wrench flats on the nipple body rather than gripping the trigger stem.
  • Position the trigger so water flows directly into the drinking bowl.
  • Flush the water line before commissioning to remove installation debris.
  • Set the appropriate flow orifice according to water pressure and sow requirements.
  • Check all threaded connections for leakage before animals enter the pen.

Maintenance:

  • Check nipple operation and water flow daily.
  • Clean screens and water-line filters periodically.
  • Inspect the trigger for unrestricted movement.
  • Replace worn O-rings or spring components when necessary.
  • Remove mineral deposits according to local water quality conditions.
  • Flush water lines regularly as part of the farm biosecurity and drinking-water program.
Product FAQ

Q: What is the Sow Trigger Nipple Drinker designed for?
A: It is primarily designed for sow water bowls and cup-drinking systems in farrowing and breeding facilities.

Q: How does the forward-spring design reduce wear?
A: The trigger arrangement reduces direct spring compression during activation, helping limit repetitive mechanical fatigue.

Q: Does the nipple help reduce water spray?
A: Yes. Its flow path is designed to deliver a steady stream into the drinking bowl rather than producing excessive spray.

Q: Can the water flow be adjusted?
A: Yes. Reference configurations provide multiple internal orifice settings for different water-flow requirements.

Q: What water pressure is recommended?
A: The reference AquaFlo model operates at 20-40 psi, with a stated maximum of 50 psi.

Q: Can it be installed with a sow drinking bowl?
A: Yes. Trigger nipples are particularly suitable for bowl systems because the released water is collected inside the basin, helping reduce waste.

Q: What information is required for a quotation?
A: Please provide quantity, sow production stage, water pressure, required flow rate, thread specification, bowl or pipe requirements and project destination.
