Product Overview

The Nursery Pig Nipple Drinker is designed to provide clean drinking water on demand for recently weaned and nursery piglets. Its compact trigger section is easier for smaller pigs to operate than conventional finishing-pig nipples.

The reference design combines a stainless steel body, corrosion-resistant spring and durable sealing components. When a piglet activates the drinking stem, water flows directly into the mouth and stops automatically after the trigger is released.

Standard threaded installation allows the nipple to be integrated with stainless steel or galvanized water pipes, adjustable brackets, nipple bars and commercial pig-house drinking lines.

Key Features
  • Compact nipple size designed for nursery and recently weaned piglets.
  • On-demand drinking helps keep water fresh and available when pigs require it.
  • Stainless steel construction provides corrosion and wear resistance.
  • 304 stainless steel spring in the reference Aqua Series configuration.
  • Durable Viton sealing ring supports reliable shut-off performance.
  • Adjustable orifice provides different water-flow settings.
  • Standard 1/2-inch male pipe thread simplifies integration with common pig-house plumbing.
  • Suitable for individual nipple pipes, adjustable brackets and multi-nipple drinking bars.
  • Simple structure supports convenient replacement and routine maintenance.
  • Compatible with commercial nursery and wean-to-finish pig-house projects.
Structural Components
  • Stainless Steel Body: Provides mechanical strength and corrosion resistance in humid livestock buildings.
  • Drinking Trigger: Allows piglets to activate water flow with the mouth.
  • Internal Spring: Returns the valve to the closed position after drinking in spring-type configurations.
  • O-Ring Seal: Helps provide reliable water shut-off and minimize dripping.
  • Flow Orifice: Controls water volume and can be selected or adjusted according to system requirements.
  • Threaded Connection: Connects the nipple to the water pipe, bracket or drinking assembly.
  • Wrench Flats: Allow convenient tightening during installation.
Working Principle

The nipple remains closed when not in use. When a piglet bites or presses the drinking stem, the internal valve opens and releases water through the outlet.

After the piglet releases the trigger, the spring or sealing mechanism returns the valve to its closed position, stopping water flow automatically.

Flow can be matched to pig size and water-system pressure by selecting the appropriate orifice or valve configuration, helping provide sufficient drinking water without unnecessary discharge.

Installation & Maintenance

Installation:

  • Install the nipple at a height suitable for the current piglet size.
  • Position the drinker so pigs can operate the trigger comfortably without excessive stretching.
  • Use thread sealant or PTFE tape suitable for drinking-water systems.
  • Use the wrench flats when tightening; avoid applying excessive force to the trigger section.
  • Install a pressure regulator where supply pressure exceeds the recommended operating range.
  • Use clean, filtered water to reduce sediment and mineral contamination.
  • Flush the water line before commissioning new nipples.

Maintenance:

  • Check every nipple regularly for adequate flow and complete shut-off.
  • Remove mineral deposits and contamination from the drinking trigger.
  • Flush water lines according to the farm water-management program.
  • Inspect O-rings, springs and internal valve components when leakage occurs.
  • Adjust drinking height as piglets grow.
  • Replace worn components promptly to minimize water loss and wet flooring.
Product FAQ

Q: Why use a nursery-specific nipple instead of a finishing nipple?
A: Nursery nipples use a smaller drinking section that is easier for recently weaned pigs to activate and use comfortably.

Q: What connection size is commonly used?
A: The reference Aqua Series nursery nipple uses a 3/8-inch nursery drinking section with a standard 1/2-inch male pipe thread.

Q: Can the water flow be adjusted?
A: Yes. The reference design offers multiple orifice settings to match flow to water pressure and pig requirements.

Q: What operating water pressure is recommended?
A: The Hog Slat reference model specifies 20-40 psi during normal operation, with a maximum of 50 psi.

Q: Can it be installed on an adjustable nipple bar?
A: Yes. Nursery nipples can be installed on individual pipes, adjustable brackets or multi-nipple bars according to the pen layout.

Q: How can water waste be reduced?
A: Correct drinking height, suitable water pressure, appropriate flow adjustment and regular valve inspection all help reduce unnecessary discharge.

Q: What information is required for a quotation?
A: Please provide piglet age or weight range, quantity, water pressure, pipe size, preferred flow rate, mounting method and project destination.
