Product Overview

The Round Automatic Nursery Pig Feeder is designed for commercial nursery pens requiring efficient ad-libitum feeding with minimal feed waste. Unlike conventional gravity feeders, its mechanical feed-delivery mechanism requires pigs to activate the feed wheel before fresh feed is released into the trough.

The circular trough provides 360-degree feeding access, allowing pigs to distribute themselves around the feeder instead of feeding shoulder-to-shoulder along a straight trough. This arrangement can reduce competition while making efficient use of pen floor space.

Reinforced fiberglass hopper and trough components provide abrasion resistance and corrosion protection, while painted steel, galvanized/zinc-plated and stainless steel metal-component configurations are available according to project requirements.

Key Features
  • Mechanical on-demand feed delivery rather than uncontrolled gravity flow.
  • Round trough provides 360-degree access for nursery pigs.
  • Self-cleaning feed-wheel action helps move feed through the trough area.
  • Feed is released through pig interaction, helping limit overfilled troughs and feed waste.
  • Reinforced fiberglass hopper and trough resist corrosion and abrasion.
  • Radial feeding positions reduce shoulder-to-shoulder competition.
  • Compact round footprint supports efficient nursery pen layouts.
  • Feed-flow control allows adjustment according to feed characteristics and management requirements.
  • Suitable for central-pen or fenceline installation.
  • Optional hopper lid, anchor brackets and fenceline adapters are available.
  • Painted steel, galvanized/zinc-plated and 304 stainless steel component options are available.
  • Knock-down construction simplifies transportation and site assembly.
Structural Components
  • Fiberglass Hopper: Stores dry nursery feed above the dispensing mechanism.
  • Round Fiberglass Trough: Provides circular feeding access without conventional trough corners.
  • Feed Wheel: Pig-operated rotating component that activates feed delivery.
  • Feed Sweep: Works with the feed wheel to move feed toward the trough feeding area.
  • Feed Flow Control: Adjusts the amount of feed released during operation.
  • Weighted Cone: Forms part of the mechanical feed-control assembly and helps restrict uncontrolled gravity flow.
  • Bump Bar Agitators: Assist feed movement and help reduce bridging inside the hopper.
  • Cage Dividers: Create organized radial feeding positions around the trough.
  • Axle Assembly: Supports movement of the central feed wheel.
  • Crossbar and Cone Strap: Support and stabilize the internal feed-delivery mechanism.
  • Anchor Brackets: Optional components secure the feeder to suitable flooring.
  • Hopper Lid: Optional cover protects stored feed from contamination and moisture.
Working Principle

Feed remains inside the hopper until pigs interact with the feed wheel in the trough area. Rotating or moving the wheel activates the internal feed sweep and mechanical-flow components, allowing a controlled quantity of feed to move into the feeding area.

Because the feeder does not rely solely on gravity, feed delivery is linked directly to pig activity. When sufficient feed is present in the trough, additional dispensing is limited, helping reduce feed accumulation and play waste.

As pigs operate the wheel, the sweeping action also moves feed around the circular trough, helping maintain accessible fresh feed around the feeding perimeter.

Installation & Maintenance

Installation:

  • Confirm nursery pen dimensions, pig capacity and feeder location before installation.
  • Assemble the hopper, trough, cage dividers, wheel and internal feed-control components according to the assembly drawing.
  • Position the feeder on a level and structurally suitable floor.
  • Secure the unit with compatible anchor brackets where required.
  • Install fenceline adapters when one feeder is intended to serve adjacent pens.
  • Connect the feed-drop tube where automatic hopper filling is required.
  • Set the initial feed-flow control according to feed characteristics and pig size.
  • Place a small quantity of feed in the trough when introducing inexperienced piglets so they quickly learn to operate the feed wheel.

Maintenance:

  • Inspect the trough and feed wheel regularly for free movement.
  • Remove spoiled or contaminated feed when required.
  • Check the feed sweep, cone and agitator components for correct operation.
  • Keep the hopper interior dry and free from excessive feed bridging.
  • Inspect cage dividers, fasteners and anchor brackets periodically.
  • Wash and disinfect the fiberglass trough and hopper between production groups.
  • Inspect metal components for wear or coating damage.
  • Replace worn mechanical components promptly to maintain accurate feed delivery.
Product FAQ

Q: How is this feeder different from a gravity feeder?
A: Feed is delivered primarily through pig-operated mechanical movement rather than continuously falling into the trough by gravity, helping prevent excessive feed accumulation.

Q: How do piglets learn to operate the feeder?
A: A small amount of feed can initially be placed in the trough. Piglets naturally interact with the wheel and quickly learn that moving it releases additional feed.

Q: Why use a round trough?
A: The circular design provides 360-degree access and allows pigs to stand radially around the feeder instead of competing along a straight feeding edge.

Q: What pig size is the feeder suitable for?
A: Comparable RN3 nursery configurations are designed for pigs from approximately two weeks of age up to 29 kg.

Q: How much feed can the hopper hold?
A: The reference RN3 configuration holds approximately 70 kg of feed, depending on feed density.

Q: Can the feeder serve two pens?
A: Yes. A compatible fenceline adapter can position the feeder between adjacent pens so both groups can access the round trough.

Q: Are stainless steel components available?
A: Yes. Selected mechanical and structural components can be supplied in 304 stainless steel according to project requirements.

Q: Can it connect to an automatic feed line?
A: Yes. A feed-drop tube can be positioned above the hopper for automatic filling where required.

Q: What information is required for a quotation?
A: Please provide piglet weight range, pigs per pen, feeder quantity, pen dimensions, installation method, flooring type, feed-delivery arrangement and available nursery-house drawings.
