These elements transmit short ultrasound pulses into the animal body and receive echoes reflected from tissues, organs, fluid interfaces, and reproductive structures. The scanner electronically controls the transducer elements to form successive scan lines. The returning signals are processed into a real-time sector-shaped grayscale image without requiring a mechanically moving transducer inside the probe.
