Product Overview

The Fixed Livestock House CO2 Sensor is designed for continuous carbon dioxide monitoring in commercial pig houses, poultry houses and other intensive livestock buildings. Installed at a representative position within the animal zone, it provides real-time CO2 data for climate controllers and farm management systems.

Carbon dioxide concentration is an important indicator of livestock-house air quality and ventilation performance. In buildings using direct-fired heaters, CO2 monitoring can also help identify abnormal combustion or insufficient fresh-air exchange.

With a rugged housing, washable installation concept and multiple signal-output options, the sensor is suitable for new farm construction, ventilation upgrades and centralized environmental monitoring projects.

Key Features
  • Continuous CO2 Monitoring: Provides ongoing measurement of carbon dioxide concentration inside livestock buildings.
  • Livestock Climate Control: Measurement data can support minimum ventilation, air-exchange management and environmental control strategies.
  • Animal-Zone Measurement: Designed for installation in a representative central location rather than only on the building wall.
  • Rugged Housing: Suitable for dusty, humid and demanding pig and poultry production environments.
  • IP67 Protection: Reference configurations provide a waterproof enclosure suitable for livestock-house washing procedures when used with the protective cap.
  • High-Pressure Cleaning Compatibility: Designed to reduce the need to remove the sensor during routine building cleaning.
  • Multiple Output Options: Voltage and current signal configurations are available for integration with different farm controllers.
  • Farm Management Integration: Interface configuration can be adapted according to project requirements.
  • Direct-Combustion Monitoring: Suitable for livestock houses using gas-fired or other direct-combustion heating equipment.
  • Retrofit Friendly: Suitable for both new installations and modernization of existing livestock climate-control systems.
Structural Components
  • CO2 sensing and signal-processing module
  • Heavy-duty protective housing
  • Filtered air inlet for sensor protection
  • Protective cap for washing and disinfection
  • M12 or project-specific electrical connector
  • Signal and power cable
  • Suspended mounting arrangement
  • Optional adapter cable for retrofit applications
Working Principle / Structural Principle

Air from the livestock house reaches the CO2 sensing section through the protected air inlet. The sensor continuously determines the carbon dioxide concentration and converts the measured value into an electrical output signal.

The signal is transmitted to a compatible climate controller, PLC or farm management system. The controller can display the current CO2 level, record environmental trends and use the information as an input for ventilation management.

Installing the sensor near the center of the livestock building provides a more representative measurement of the air surrounding the animals compared with locations affected by wall surfaces, fresh-air inlets or localized airflow.

Installation & Maintenance

Installation Position: Install the sensor in a representative central area of the livestock house. Reference installation guidance specifies that the sensor should be positioned at least 50 cm above the floor while remaining outside the animals' reach.

Suspended Mounting: The sensor should normally hang freely from its cable so that air can circulate around the sensing tip. Avoid placing it directly against walls, steel columns or other building components that may restrict airflow.

Avoid Local Interference: Keep the sensor away from direct sunlight, strong fresh-air jets, heaters or other localized conditions that may produce unrepresentative CO2 readings.

Washing and Disinfection: Fit the specified protection cap before high-pressure cleaning or disinfection procedures. Verify that the cap is correctly installed before washing begins.

Routine Maintenance: Inspect the housing, air inlet, filter, connector and cable periodically. Keep the sensing area free from excessive dust accumulation and replace service components according to the maintenance requirements of the selected configuration.

Project Cases

Commercial Pig House Ventilation Monitoring: A fixed CO2 sensor can be installed in the central animal zone and connected to the house climate controller. Continuous CO2 measurements provide additional information for evaluating minimum ventilation and indoor air quality during different production stages.

Poultry House Climate Control: In broiler houses, CO2 monitoring can be integrated with temperature, humidity and ventilation data to support environmental management, particularly during cold-weather minimum-ventilation operation.

Multi-House Farm Project: Several sensors can be installed across multiple pig or poultry buildings and connected to a centralized environmental monitoring platform for data logging, alarm management and farm-level climate supervision.

Product FAQ

Q: What is the purpose of CO2 monitoring in a livestock house?
A: CO2 concentration provides useful information about air quality and ventilation performance. Continuous monitoring helps farm operators identify insufficient air exchange and adjust environmental-control strategies.

Q: Can the sensor be used in pig houses?
A: Yes. It is suitable for pig houses, poultry houses and other livestock buildings when the measuring range, output signal and installation arrangement are selected for the project.

Q: Where should the sensor be installed?
A: It should normally be installed near the center of the livestock house in a representative air zone, at least 50 cm above the floor and outside the animals' reach.

Q: Can the sensor remain installed during high-pressure washing?
A: IP67 reference configurations are designed for demanding farm cleaning conditions when the specified protection cap is correctly installed.

Q: Can it monitor problems associated with direct-fired heaters?
A: Yes. CO2 measurement can support supervision of air quality in livestock buildings using direct-combustion heating and can help indicate abnormal conditions that require investigation.

Q: What output signals are available?
A: Depending on the selected configuration, analogue voltage outputs or 4-20 mA current outputs can be supplied. Final compatibility should be confirmed with the farm controller.

Q: Can SHEWUYOU provide sensors for an entire farm project?
A: Yes. Sensor quantity, installation positions, output interfaces, cable requirements and controller integration can be configured according to livestock-house dimensions, ventilation design and project requirements.
