Product Overview

The Concrete Slat Closer is a practical retrofit accessory designed to reduce the effective slot width of existing concrete slatted floors in pig houses without replacing the complete flooring system.

The plastic profile is pressed into the existing concrete floor opening to create a narrower and more stable walking surface while retaining sufficient space for manure and liquid drainage. It can also help reduce feed loss through oversized floor openings.

The system is suitable for commercial pig farms, renovation projects and livestock buildings where existing concrete slat dimensions need to be adapted to different pig categories or management requirements.

Key Features
  • Concrete Floor Retrofit: Reduces existing slot width without replacing complete concrete slatted floor sections.
  • Fast Installation: Quick-fit profiles can be installed using a rubber hammer without complex floor modification.
  • No Bolts or Screws: The profile is mechanically retained inside the concrete slot in compatible applications.
  • Improved Walking Surface: Narrower openings can provide a more stable floor surface for suitable pig categories.
  • Maintains Drainage: The insert reduces slot width while allowing manure and liquids to continue passing into the pit below.
  • Reduces Feed Loss: Smaller openings can help limit feed dropping directly through concrete floor slots.
  • Durable Plastic Construction: Resistant to moisture and suitable for routine livestock-house cleaning.
  • Surface Options: Smooth and ribbed configurations are available for different flooring requirements.
  • Cost-Effective Upgrade: Suitable for pig farm renovation where the existing concrete structure remains serviceable.
Structural Components
  • Top Surface: Smooth or ribbed upper profile forming part of the animal walking surface.
  • Central Profile: Vertical structural section extending into the concrete slat opening.
  • Flexible Retaining Fins: Profiled lower sections grip the sides of a compatible concrete slot after installation.
  • Plastic Body: Moisture-resistant profile suitable for livestock flooring environments.
  • Cut-to-Length Sections: Profiles can be cut or adapted according to the required installation area.
Working Principle / Structural Principle

The slat closer is positioned directly above an existing concrete floor slot and driven into the opening using a rubber hammer. Flexible retaining sections compress during insertion and then grip the internal sides of the slot.

Once installed, the upper profile covers part of the original opening and effectively reduces the slot width. The remaining opening continues to provide drainage into the manure channel while the additional surface area improves floor continuity.

Installation & Maintenance

Installation:

  • Measure several concrete floor slots to confirm the actual gap range.
  • Select the correct slat closer profile for the measured openings.
  • Clean manure, dirt and loose material from the concrete slots.
  • Cut the profile to the required installation length where necessary.
  • Position the closer vertically over the concrete slot.
  • Install progressively using a rubber hammer until the upper surface seats correctly.
  • Check that the profile is secure and does not create protruding edges or unstable sections.
  • Inspect the completed floor before animals return to the pen.

Maintenance:

  • Include the installed profiles in routine pressure washing and disinfection.
  • Inspect the closers periodically for movement, wear or mechanical damage.
  • Keep the remaining drainage openings free from excessive manure buildup.
  • Replace loose or damaged sections when necessary.
  • Reinspect floor condition whenever pigs of a different size or production stage are introduced.
Product FAQ

Q1: What is a concrete slat closer?

It is a plastic insert installed in an existing concrete slatted floor to reduce the effective width of the floor opening.

Q2: Does installation require drilling?

Compatible quick-fit designs normally do not require drilling, bolts or screws and can be installed with a rubber hammer.

Q3: Which concrete slot widths can be adapted?

Reference profiles are available for approximately 14-18 mm, 18-22 mm and 24-32 mm gaps. Actual concrete slots should always be measured before ordering.

Q4: Will manure still pass through the floor?

Yes. The closer reduces rather than completely seals the opening, allowing suitable remaining drainage when correctly selected and installed.

Q5: Can the product reduce feed waste?

Reducing oversized floor openings can help prevent some feed from falling directly into the manure pit.

Q6: Can existing concrete floors be upgraded without replacement?

Yes. This is one of the main applications of a slat closer when the existing concrete slats remain structurally suitable.

Q7: How do I select the correct model?

Provide the measured slot width, concrete slat dimensions, pig category, required installation length, floor photographs and project quantity for product selection.
