Product Overview

The Double-Sided Heated Cattle Waterer is an automatic frost-protected livestock drinking system designed for dairy cattle, beef cattle and other compatible large livestock. Its two-sided drinking arrangement makes it particularly suitable for installation through a fence line, allowing animals in two adjacent pens to share one watering station.

The waterer combines an insulated livestock-grade housing with a stainless steel drinking trough, automatic float-controlled refill valve and thermostatically controlled electric heating. Heating elements positioned beneath the trough help maintain water availability during freezing weather, while additional protection can be provided around the valve and supply line.

The compact double-access configuration is suitable for small and medium cattle pens, paddocks, steel structure livestock buildings and cold-region farm construction projects. Heating output, voltage, water connection and insulation can be configured according to local climate and project requirements.

Key Features
  • Double-Sided Drinking Access: Allows animals on opposite sides of a fence or partition to use one waterer.
  • Frost-Free Heating: Electric heating elements help protect the trough during severe winter temperatures.
  • Thermostatic Control: Heating operates automatically according to temperature conditions.
  • Stainless Steel Trough: Provides corrosion resistance, durability and a hygienic drinking surface.
  • Insulated Housing: Polyurethane-insulated casing reduces heat loss and improves winter energy efficiency.
  • Quick-Refill Valve: Automatic valve maintains access to fresh drinking water as cattle consume water.
  • Automatic Water Level: Float mechanism maintains the selected water level without manual refilling.
  • Valve & Supply-Line Protection: Cable heating can provide additional frost protection for critical components.
  • Rounded Livestock-Safe Edges: Smooth housing geometry reduces sharp contact points around the drinking station.
  • Ready for Fixed Installation: Suitable for anchoring to a concrete pad with a frost-protected underground water supply.

Working Principle / Structural Principle

The waterer is connected to a pressurized livestock water supply. A mechanical float controls the inlet valve and maintains the selected water level automatically.

When cattle drink and the water level drops, the float lowers and opens the valve. Fresh water enters the stainless steel trough until the normal operating level is restored, at which point the float closes the valve.

During cold weather, thermostatically controlled heating elements beneath the trough supply heat only when required. The insulated housing limits thermal loss, while a cable heater can protect the valve and incoming water line.

This combination of insulation, automatic refill and controlled heating provides dependable all-season livestock watering without requiring animals to operate a paddle or pressure valve.

The double-sided configuration is particularly useful when one waterer is positioned in a fence or partition between two livestock areas. This layout can reduce equipment quantity and simplify centralized water-line planning.

For steel structure cattle projects, the waterer can be coordinated with fencing, pen partitions, insulated pipelines, electrical supply, concrete foundations and drainage systems during project design.

Installation & Maintenance

Fence-Line Positioning: The double-sided unit can be positioned through a suitable livestock fence or pen partition so animals can drink from both sides.

Foundation Preparation: Install the waterer on a level reinforced concrete pad with sufficient drainage around the drinking area.

Frost-Protected Riser: Route the underground water line below the local frost depth and use an insulated thermal tube where required.

Secure Anchoring: Fasten the unit to the concrete pad using suitable corrosion-resistant anchor bolts.

Water Connection: Connect the automatic valve to a pressurized water supply and install an accessible isolation valve.

Electrical Installation: Connect the heating system according to the selected voltage and applicable local electrical standards.

Commissioning: Check automatic refill, water level, thermostat operation and heating components before winter use.

Routine Cleaning: Drain and clean the trough regularly to remove sediment, feed particles and organic contamination.

Winter Inspection: Inspect heating elements, cable heater, thermostat, insulation and water-line protection before freezing weather.

Project Cases

Double-sided heated waterers are suitable for cattle facilities where adjacent pens share a common fence line. A single unit can provide drinking access from both livestock areas while reducing water-line branches and equipment installation points.

In cold-climate dairy and beef projects, the waterer can be installed over a frost-protected riser with the electrical heating system connected during construction. The insulated casing helps conserve heat while maintaining year-round livestock access to fresh water.

For new livestock building projects, foundation size, fence opening, water connection, electrical conduit and drainage can be coordinated before equipment installation.

Product FAQ

Q1: What is a double-sided cattle waterer?
It provides drinking access from two sides, allowing one unit to serve livestock in adjacent pens or on both sides of a fence.

Q2: Does the waterer refill automatically?
Yes. A float-controlled valve maintains the required water level automatically.

Q3: How does the system prevent freezing?
An insulated housing and thermostatically controlled heating elements help protect the water trough during freezing weather.

Q4: Is the waterer suitable for severe winters?
Yes. Heated and insulated configurations are designed for cold-climate livestock operation when correctly installed for local conditions.

Q5: What is the reference heating power?
The comparable Ritchie OmniFount 2 configuration uses 298 W at 120 V.

Q6: What is the reference capacity?
The comparable OmniFount 2 holds approximately 2.2 gallons or 8 liters and uses a quick-refill valve instead of relying on a large stored volume.

Q7: How many cattle can a comparable unit serve?
The reference configuration is rated for up to 20 dairy cattle or 40 beef cattle under the manufacturer's specified conditions.

Q8: Can it be installed directly in a fence line?
Yes. Double-sided models are especially suitable for splitting a fence between small pens or paddocks.

Q9: Does the underground water line need frost protection?
Yes. The vertical water supply should be installed below local frost depth and protected with an insulated thermal riser where required.

Q10: Can voltage and heating capacity be customized?
Yes. Electrical configuration, heating output, insulation and installation accessories can be supplied according to project requirements.
