Product Overview

The Large Electric Brooder Heating Plate is designed to provide gentle contact and radiant warmth for chicks, ducklings, goslings, poults and other young poultry during the brooding period. Birds move beneath the heated panel in a way that resembles gathering under a hen, while still being able to leave the warm area whenever required.

Compared with conventional suspended heat lamps, a brooder plate concentrates heat close to the birds and can operate at relatively low electrical power. Adjustable legs allow the panel height to be raised as birds grow, making the unit suitable for hatcheries, brooder rooms, small commercial poultry units and livestock-equipment projects requiring localized electric heating.

Key Features
  • Gentle Contact Heating: provides warmth from the underside of the panel close to the birds rather than heating the entire brooder air volume.
  • Adjustable Height: threaded or indexed legs allow the plate to be positioned lower for newly hatched chicks and raised progressively as birds grow.
  • Natural Brooding Behavior: birds can move freely under and away from the heated area according to their individual comfort requirements.
  • Low Energy Consumption: heating plates generally require much less electrical power than conventional high-wattage infrared heat lamps.
  • No Continuous Bright Light: allows normal day and night lighting programs to be maintained in the brooding environment.
  • Large Heating Area: suitable for larger chick groups and commercial brooding applications where greater panel coverage is required.
  • Easy-Clean Construction: smooth surfaces and optional protective top covers help simplify routine cleaning between batches.
  • Simple Installation: freestanding design requires no suspension system and can be positioned directly inside the brooder area.
Structural Components
  • Electric heating panel
  • Insulated upper housing
  • Warm underside contact surface
  • Four adjustable support legs
  • Height-locking or threaded adjustment sections
  • Power cable
  • Power indicator, depending on configuration
  • Low-voltage transformer or mains connection according to model
  • Optional anti-perching or protective top cover
Working Principle

The internal electric heating element warms the underside of the brooder plate. Chicks gather beneath the panel and receive heat through close-range radiant and conductive heat transfer.

Because the heat source is positioned close to the birds, the surrounding brooder does not need to be heated to the same level as with some conventional lamp-based systems. Birds regulate their own heat exposure by moving beneath or away from the panel.

As the flock grows, the support legs are adjusted upward so the birds can continue to stand comfortably beneath the heated plate while maintaining effective heat transfer.

Installation & Maintenance

Place the heating plate on firm, dry bedding inside the brooder and adjust the legs so the underside is close to the backs of newly hatched chicks. One side can be positioned slightly lower than the other where the design allows, providing birds with different heat-access heights.

As birds grow, raise the plate gradually so they can continue to move freely underneath without excessive contact with the panel. Observe bird distribution and behavior during the first days and adjust the height when necessary.

Keep electrical connections, adapters and plugs dry and protect cables from bird damage, rodents and farm machinery. The equipment should be connected to an electrical supply that complies with local farm electrical standards.

Disconnect the electrical supply before cleaning or moving the brooder. Remove dust, bedding and manure from the panel and legs after each batch. Do not immerse electrical components unless the specific product configuration is explicitly rated for that cleaning method.

Product FAQ

Q: How does an electric brooder heating plate warm chicks?

A: The plate provides gentle heat from its underside. Chicks move underneath the panel and receive close-range radiant and contact warmth.

Q: Is a heating plate suitable for newly hatched chicks?

A: Yes. The plate should be positioned low enough for young chicks to approach the warm underside comfortably and then raised as they grow.

Q: Can the height be adjusted?

A: Yes. Large brooder plates typically use adjustable legs so the heating height can follow bird growth.

Q: Does the heating plate produce light?

A: The heating surface does not require continuous bright illumination, allowing normal poultry-house lighting programs to be maintained.

Q: Can the plate be used for ducklings and goslings?

A: Yes. Suitable heating plates can also provide supplemental warmth for young waterfowl, provided adequate space, dryness and appropriate height are maintained.

Q: Can an external temperature controller be added?

A: Selected heating plates can be combined with compatible output or temperature controllers. Availability depends on the electrical design.

Q: Can larger or customized versions be supplied?

A: Yes. Plate size, power, voltage, leg height and electrical configuration can be customized according to project requirements.
