Working Principle / Structural Principle In an optical dissolved oxygen configuration, the probe contains an oxygen-sensitive sensing layer that is excited by a light source. Dissolved oxygen changes the optical response of the sensing material, and the instrument processes this response to calculate the oxygen concentration in the water.

Because the optical method does not consume oxygen during measurement, it can provide stable measurements without requiring continuous sample stirring or a minimum flow rate. Optical probes also avoid the electrolyte filling and membrane replacement associated with many traditional electrochemical dissolved oxygen sensors.

Installation & Maintenance The portable dissolved oxygen meter normally requires no permanent installation. Before measurement, inspect the probe, cable and connector for contamination or physical damage and confirm that the instrument has been calibrated according to the selected operating procedure.

Immerse the sensing section completely in the water without allowing the probe to strike the bottom, tank wall, pipework or other hard surfaces. For representative results, select a sampling point that reflects the actual water condition rather than an isolated stagnant corner unless that location is specifically being investigated.

Allow the displayed value to stabilize before recording the result. When comparing several livestock houses, tanks or water sources, use a consistent sampling method and similar measurement depth where practical.

After testing, rinse the sensing section with suitable clean water to remove sediment, organic matter or chemical residue. Do not scratch or aggressively clean the optical sensing surface.
