Product Overview

The Universal Livestock Ear Tag Applicator is a professional hand-operated tool designed for efficient installation of compatible two-piece visual identification, electronic identification and livestock monitoring ear tags. Its ergonomic leverage structure helps operators complete repeated tagging work with controlled force and consistent tag alignment.

The applicator combines a robust frame, spring-return handles, applicator pin and adjustable or removable jaw components. Selected configurations allow operators to switch between different compatible tag types with minimal tool adjustment, making the applicator suitable for commercial cattle farms, breeding operations, veterinary programs and livestock identification projects.

The lightweight, reusable design is suitable for routine farm use at cattle chutes, handling races, vaccination stations and animal registration points where fast and reliable ear tag installation is required.

Key Features
  • Universal-style design for compatible visual ID, electronic ID and monitoring ear tags.
  • Ergonomic handle geometry reduces the force required during repeated tag application.
  • Lightweight yet robust construction for routine commercial livestock use.
  • Quick and controlled closing action supports efficient animal handling workflows.
  • Reduced pinch-point design helps improve operator safety during repetitive tagging.
  • Spring-return mechanism automatically reopens the handles after application.
  • Replaceable applicator pin simplifies maintenance and extends usable tool life.
  • Selected configurations allow rapid switching between compatible tag systems.
  • Suitable for high-volume cattle identification and herd registration programs.
  • Replacement parts and compatible ear tags are available according to project requirements.
Structural Components
  • Upper Jaw: Holds and positions the male tag component during installation.
  • Lower Jaw: Supports the female tag or electronic identification component in alignment with the applicator pin.
  • Applicator Pin: Holds the male stud and guides it through the ear into the female locking section.
  • Jaw Insert: Removable or configurable component used to accommodate selected tag types.
  • Ergonomic Handles: Provide mechanical leverage while maintaining comfortable operator control.
  • Return Spring: Reopens the applicator automatically after each tagging cycle.
  • Tool Frame: Durable structural body designed to maintain jaw alignment under repeated use.
  • Replacement Pin Position: Selected designs provide convenient storage for a spare applicator pin within the handle.
Working Principle

The male component of the livestock ear tag is placed onto the applicator pin while the matching female component is positioned in the opposite jaw. The operator checks that both parts are correctly seated and aligned before moving the applicator to the animal's ear.

When the handles are squeezed, the applicator converts hand pressure into controlled closing force. The male stud passes through the selected area of the ear and locks into the female component.

After the tag locks into place, the handles are released and the return spring opens the applicator. For electronic identification tags or monitoring tags, the jaw configuration should be adjusted according to the selected tag system.

Correct tag placement and compatible applicator configuration are important for tag retention, animal comfort and efficient herd identification.

Installation & Maintenance

Applicator Preparation: Confirm that the correct pin and jaw configuration are installed for the selected livestock ear tag before tagging begins.

Tag Loading: Fit the male tag component securely onto the applicator pin and position the female component correctly in the opposite jaw.

Ear Placement: Position the tag between major cartilage structures in accordance with the ear tag manufacturer's recommended application procedure.

Application: Close the handles in one smooth, controlled movement until the tag components lock together. Release the handles and carefully remove the applicator.

Cleaning: Remove dirt, hair and organic contamination from the jaws, pin and moving components after routine use.

Maintenance: Check the applicator pin, spring, jaw inserts and frame regularly. Replace bent, excessively worn or damaged components before further use.

Typical Project Configuration

For commercial cattle operations, universal ear tag applicators can be supplied as part of a complete animal identification package. Farm operators can use the same tagging workstation for compatible visual identification tags and electronic identification tags, reducing the number of separate tools required during herd processing.

For integrated livestock projects, SHEWUYOU can configure ear tag applicators together with visual cattle tags, RFID ear tags, handheld readers, animal weighing equipment and related livestock management products according to project requirements.
