Product Overview

The Double Side Automatic Calf Waterer is designed for group calf housing, weaning pens and livestock facilities where animals require convenient access to fresh water from both sides of one centralized watering station.

The double-trough layout allows installation along a fence line or between adjacent calf pens. A mechanical float-controlled valve automatically replenishes the drinking trough as the water level falls, providing continuous water availability without manual bucket filling.

The unit can be manufactured with a durable livestock-grade polymer body, protected central valve compartment and low drinking height suitable for young animals. Insulated and heated configurations are available for cold-climate applications according to project requirements.

Key Features
  • Double-Sided Drinking Access: Two drinking areas allow calves in adjacent pens to share one automatic waterer.
  • Automatic Quick Refill: Float-controlled valve replenishes water as calves drink.
  • Calf-Friendly Drinking Height: Low-profile configurations improve access for young livestock.
  • Central Valve Compartment: Separates the water-control mechanism from the main drinking areas.
  • Durable Polymer Body: One-piece livestock-grade construction provides impact resistance and corrosion protection.
  • Insulated Construction: Insulated configurations help stabilize water temperature and improve cold-weather performance.
  • Low Stored Water Volume: Quick refill helps provide fresher water while reducing unnecessary stored volume.
  • Easy Cleaning: Sloped trough surfaces and drain openings support rapid flushing and debris removal.
  • Service Access: Removable central cover or side access panel simplifies valve inspection and maintenance.
  • Optional Frost Protection: Heating systems and self-regulating heat cable are available for freezing conditions.

Working Principle / Structural Principle

The automatic calf waterer is connected directly to the livestock water supply. A mechanical float inside the protected valve chamber controls the inlet valve according to the trough water level.

When calves consume water, the float moves downward and opens the valve. Fresh water enters the drinking trough until the preset operating level is restored. The rising float then closes the valve automatically.

The two-sided layout provides drinking access from opposite sides of the unit and is especially useful for fence-line installations between two calf pens. This arrangement can reduce the number of individual waterers and pipeline branches required in the livestock building.

Optional insulation and heating components can be added where winter temperatures require additional frost protection.

The double-sided configuration is particularly suitable where two calf groups share a common partition. One waterer can provide access from both pens while simplifying water-line routing and reducing the number of individual watering units.

For new livestock buildings, waterer placement can be coordinated with calf partitions, feeding areas, structural columns, drainage channels and centralized water pipelines during project design.

Installation & Maintenance

Select the Installation Position: Position the waterer between adjacent calf pens for double-sided access or install it as a stand-alone unit where required.

Prepare the Base: Install the unit on a level concrete pad or suitable livestock floor with adequate drainage around the drinking area.

Set the Drinking Height: Select a suitable height according to calf age and body size.

Anchor the Waterer: Secure the body using suitable corrosion-resistant anchors to prevent movement during livestock contact.

Connect the Water Supply: Connect the automatic valve to the farm water line and provide an accessible isolation valve.

Flush the Pipeline: Remove sediment, rust and construction debris before connecting the float valve.

Adjust the Water Level: Set the float to maintain sufficient drinking depth without excessive standing water or overflow.

Routine Cleaning: Remove drain plugs and flush the trough regularly. Sloped internal surfaces help move feed residue and debris toward the drain area.

Valve Maintenance: Inspect the float, valve seals and inlet components periodically for blockage, wear or leakage.

Project Cases

Double-sided automatic calf waterers are suitable for commercial calf barns where adjacent group pens can share one centrally positioned watering station.

A fence-line installation can reduce the number of water supply branches while maintaining convenient access from both sides. Low drinking-height configurations are especially useful for young calves and smaller livestock.

For cold-region livestock projects, the waterer can be combined with insulation, optional heating equipment and a frost-protected underground water supply according to local climate conditions.

Product FAQ

Q1: What is a double-sided automatic calf waterer?
It is a livestock waterer with drinking access on two sides, allowing calves in adjacent pens to share one automatic watering unit.

Q2: How does the waterer refill automatically?
A mechanical float valve opens when the water level falls and closes after the preset water level is restored.

Q3: Is the waterer suitable for young calves?
Yes. Low-profile configurations can provide a drinking height specifically suited to calves and other smaller livestock.

Q4: Can it be installed between two calf pens?
Yes. Fence-line installation is one of the main applications of a double-sided waterer.

Q5: What is the reference drinking height?
A comparable professional calf-oriented model has an approximately 11-inch / 28-cm drinking height.

Q6: How many calves can a comparable unit serve?
A comparable professional double-sided small-animal configuration is specified for up to approximately 80 calves. Actual requirements depend on water demand, valve flow, pen layout and management conditions.

Q7: Does the automatic valve require electricity?
No. Standard float-valve water-level control is mechanical.

Q8: Can frost protection be added?
Yes. Insulation, immersion heating and self-regulating heat cable can be supplied according to local climate requirements.

Q9: Is the trough easy to clean?
Yes. Accessible drain plugs, sloped trough surfaces and removable service covers simplify routine cleaning and maintenance.
