Product Overview

The Adjustable Sheep Turnover Crate is a professional livestock restraining and handling unit designed to secure and rotate sheep into an ergonomic working position for routine husbandry procedures. Adjustable height and width settings allow the crate to accommodate a broad range of sheep breeds, body sizes and production stages.

The turnover mechanism allows the restrained animal to rotate around its own axis with reduced physical effort from the operator. Once rotated, the sheep is presented with its feet toward the handler, providing convenient access to the hooves, legs, udder, belly, head and rear area.

The crate can be used for hoof inspection and trimming, foot treatment, dosing, tagging, dagging, veterinary examination and other flock-management procedures. A rear access gate provides additional access to the animal when required.

Designed for integration with commercial sheep races and handling yards, the galvanized steel structure provides durability for intensive livestock applications while optional wheels and handles support convenient relocation around the farm.

Key Features
  • Adjustable Height: The upper restraint structure can be positioned to suit different sheep body heights.
  • Adjustable Width: Variable internal width accommodates different breeds, mature ewes, rams and smaller animals.
  • Low-Effort Turnover: The rotation system allows the animal to turn around its own axis, reducing operator effort.
  • Feet-Toward-Operator Position: Presents the animal in a practical working position for hoof treatment and inspection.
  • Rear Animal Access: A back gate provides access to the rear section without unnecessary repositioning.
  • Secure Restraint: Adjustable holding components stabilize the sheep before and during turnover.
  • Race Integration: Drilled connection lugs allow compatible installation within heavy-duty sheep handling systems.
  • Galvanized Steel Construction: Designed for corrosion resistance and repeated use in livestock environments.
  • Optional Mobility: Wheels and operating handles can be supplied for easier movement between working areas.
  • Commercial Farm Compatibility: Suitable for fixed sheep yards, portable handling systems and complete livestock equipment projects.

Working Principle / Structural Principle

The sheep enters the turnover crate from the handling race. Before operation, the height and width of the restraint assembly are adjusted to match the size of the animal.

Once the sheep is positioned correctly, the adjustable restraint components secure the body and prevent excessive movement. The operator then releases the turnover mechanism and rotates the crate around its pivot system.

The balanced rotating structure allows the animal to turn with relatively little operator force. At the working position, the sheep's feet face the operator, providing clear access for hoof trimming, treatment and inspection.

After the required procedure is completed, the crate is returned to the upright position, the restraint is released and the sheep continues through the handling system.

Installation & Maintenance

The turnover crate should be installed on a firm and level working surface within or immediately adjacent to the sheep handling race. The entrance and exit should align with the normal direction of livestock movement.

Compatible connection lugs can be attached to heavy-duty sheep hurdles or race sections to stabilize the crate during handling. Sufficient clearance should be maintained around the rotating side so the equipment can complete its turnover movement safely.

Before each handling session, adjust the restraint width and height according to the animal group. Check that locking mechanisms, release controls and rotating components move freely before introducing livestock.

Routine maintenance should include cleaning manure, wool and dirt from the floor, pivots and locking components. Inspect welds, fasteners, adjustment mechanisms and galvanized surfaces regularly, and keep moving components correctly maintained for smooth operation.

Project Cases

In a typical commercial sheep handling layout, the turnover crate is installed directly within a single-file race. Sheep enter individually, are restrained for treatment and then return to the normal standing position before exiting toward a holding or dispersal pen.

For farms processing different breeds or age groups, the adjustable width and height settings allow the same unit to be reconfigured between handling sessions without installing multiple dedicated restraining stands.

The turnover crate can also be incorporated into complete sheep handling projects together with forcing pens, sorting gates, weighing equipment, EID systems and galvanized livestock panels.

Product FAQ

Q: What is a sheep turnover crate used for?

A: It restrains and rotates sheep into an accessible working position for hoof care, dosing, tagging, inspection and other livestock management procedures.
