Product Overview The Slurry Pipeline Air Release and Vacuum Valve is intended for selected high points and other engineered locations on pumped livestock manure lines. It allows bulk air to leave the pipeline during filling and air to enter during draining or a vacuum event. A slurry-duty flow passage, float and seat arrangement can be specified for solids-bearing media encountered in commercial pig farm manure transfer and biogas feed systems.
Key Features
  • Self-operating air discharge and vacuum relief during pipeline filling and emptying.
  • Large-orifice configurations can be selected for the calculated air movement.
  • Slurry-compatible lining, float and seat materials are available according to the media.
  • Vertical installation provides access to the cover and internal service parts.
  • Valve location and discharge routing can be integrated into the manure pipeline design.
Structural Components A typical assembly comprises a vertical valve body, pipeline inlet, air outlet, buoyant float, resilient seat, cover, gaskets and fasteners. Depending on the selected design, an internal lining, flushing connection or upstream isolation valve may be specified. The exact parts and service arrangement are confirmed in the approved technical drawing.
Working Principle When the pipeline fills, displaced air escapes through the open valve. As slurry rises into the body, the float moves toward the seat and closes the outlet. When the line drains and internal pressure falls, the float drops and the valve admits air to relieve vacuum. Continuous release of small air pockets while the line remains pressurized requires a configuration specifically designed for that function.
Technical Specifications
  • Nominal size and air-flow capacity: According to project requirements
  • Pressure rating and flange standard: Available upon request
  • Body, lining, float and seat materials: Selected for the specified slurry
  • Air discharge and vacuum intake functions: According to the confirmed valve configuration
  • Installation dimensions: According to approved drawings
Applications Potential applications include pumped pig manure transfer lines, livestock slurry pipelines between buildings and storage tanks, separator feed pipelines and prepared digestate lines. Placement should follow the pipeline elevation profile and an assessment of pump operation, filling rate, draining rate and surge conditions. The valve may be housed in an accessible service chamber or protected area associated with the farm's steel structure buildings.
Customization Options Valve size, connection pattern, body coating, internal lining, float, seat material and service connections can be specified according to project requirements. Outdoor protection and maintenance access can be designed according to local climate and farm conditions.
Installation & Maintenance Install the valve upright at the location identified by the pipeline designer, with a supported connection and sufficient clearance to remove the cover. Route the air outlet to a suitable location for the manure handling environment. Verify the flange seal and valve operation during commissioning. Periodically inspect the inlet, float and seat for solids buildup or wear. Isolate and depressurize the branch before opening the valve for service.
Product FAQ

Where should the valve be installed?
Locations are determined from the pipe profile and operating conditions. Pipeline high points often require assessment, but the number and position of valves must be engineered for the full system.

Does every model release air while the pipeline is pressurized?
No. Large-orifice air and vacuum valves principally operate during filling and draining. Specify an appropriate combination design if pressurized air release is also required.

What is needed for selection?
Provide the pipeline profile, diameter, pump flow, operating pressure, filling and draining conditions, slurry characteristics and connection standard.
