Product Overview

The Livestock Trough Float Valve is an automatic water-level controller designed to maintain a stable supply of fresh drinking water in livestock troughs, stock tanks and farm watering containers.

As animals consume water and the trough level falls, the internal float mechanism opens the inlet valve. When the preset water level is restored, buoyancy closes the valve automatically, reducing the need for manual tank filling.

A compact protected housing, clamp-on installation and standard water connection make the valve suitable for pig farms, cattle facilities, goat-farming-equipment/" target="_blank" class="keylink">sheep and goat farms, breeding units and other commercial livestock projects.

Key Features
  • Automatically maintains the required water level in livestock troughs.
  • Float-operated mechanical control requires no electrical power.
  • Helps reduce overflow, water waste and manual refilling labor.
  • Protected float design keeps the operating mechanism inside the housing.
  • High-impact plastic housing provides strength and corrosion resistance.
  • Metal mounting clamps allow quick attachment to compatible trough rims.
  • Standard hose connection simplifies connection to farm water supplies.
  • Compact construction minimizes interference with animal drinking space.
  • Plastic and metal-housing configurations are available according to project requirements.
  • Optional anti-siphon configuration is available for suitable installations.
Structural Components
  • Protective Housing: Encloses the float and valve mechanism and helps protect components from livestock contact.
  • Internal Float: Rises and falls with the trough water level to actuate the inlet valve.
  • Valve Seat and Orifice: Regulate water entering the trough.
  • Water Inlet: Connects the valve to the farm water-supply hose or pipework.
  • Mounting Brackets: Secure the assembly to the edge of a compatible trough or stock tank.
  • Fastening Screws: Allow the brackets to be tightened without permanent modification to the trough.
Working Principle

The float rests on the water surface inside the protected valve housing. When livestock consume water, the water level and float move downward, allowing the inlet valve to open.

Fresh water then enters the trough automatically. As the trough refills, the float rises until the valve seat closes the inlet at the required level.

This simple mechanical principle provides automatic water-level control without sensors, electrical wiring or manual switching.

Installation & Maintenance

Installation:

  • Select a mounting position that provides the required trough water level.
  • Attach the mounting brackets securely to a compatible tank or trough rim.
  • Connect the water inlet to the farm water supply using the specified hose or adapter.
  • Flush the supply line before final connection to remove debris.
  • Turn on the water gradually and check that the float opens and closes correctly.
  • Check all connections for leakage before livestock use.

Maintenance:

  • Inspect the float mechanism regularly for dirt, scale or restricted movement.
  • Clean the inlet orifice when reduced water flow is observed.
  • Check mounting brackets and fasteners for looseness or corrosion.
  • Inspect hose washers, valve seats and seals for leakage.
  • Flush sediment from water lines periodically.
  • Protect the valve and exposed pipework against freezing where required by local climate.
Product FAQ

Q: What does a livestock trough float valve do?
A: It automatically opens the water supply when the trough level falls and closes it when the required level is restored.

Q: Does the float valve require electricity?
A: No. It operates mechanically through the buoyancy of the internal float.

Q: What is the reference flow capacity?
A: The comparable Trough-O-Matic configuration provides a maximum rated flow of up to 245 US gallons per hour.

Q: What water pressure is suitable?
A: The reference model is designed for an operating range of 20-50 psi. Other requirements should be confirmed before ordering.

Q: Can it be installed without drilling the trough?
A: Clamp-mounted configurations can be secured directly to compatible trough rims, reducing installation work.

Q: Can it connect directly to farm pipework?
A: Yes. Hose connections are standard on comparable models, while adapters can be selected for direct pipe installation.

Q: Is an anti-siphon version available?
A: Yes. Anti-siphon configurations can be supplied where required by the water-system design or local regulations.

Q: What information is required for a quotation?
A: Please provide required quantity, trough type, rim dimensions, inlet connection, available water pressure, required flow rate and project destination.
