3-Way Sheep Drafting & Stop Gate

Product Name 3-Way Sheep Drafting & Stop Gate
Product Image 3-way sheep drafting and stop gate
Product Overview

The 3-Way Sheep Drafting & Stop Gate is a professional livestock sorting component designed for installation at the discharge end of a goat-farming-equipment/" target="_blank" class="keylink">sheep handling race. It allows animals to continue straight ahead or be diverted into left-hand or right-hand dispersal pens, providing three selectable livestock movement routes from one compact drafting point.

The gate combines a hinged stop gate with a directional diverter mechanism, allowing the operator to control individual sheep during drafting, weighing, treatment and flock classification. When required, the gate can also function as a stop point to temporarily hold an animal within the race.

A drilled base arrangement allows adjoining race hurdles to be positioned with a taper when working with smaller sheep or lambs. This makes the unit particularly useful in mixed-age commercial flocks where race width may need to be adapted according to animal size.

Manufactured for integration with modular sheep handling equipment, the system is suitable for commercial farms, livestock contractors, breeding operations and complete agricultural handling projects.

Key Features
  • Three-Way Drafting: Directs sheep straight ahead, to the left or to the right according to flock-management requirements.
  • Integrated Stop Gate: Allows an individual animal to be temporarily stopped within the handling race when inspection or treatment is required.
  • Directional Diverter Gate: Provides fast route selection at the race exit without manually moving animals between pens.
  • Tapered Race Compatibility: Drilled base sections allow adjoining hurdles to be tapered for smaller animals or lambs.
  • Galvanized Steel Construction: Provides corrosion resistance for intensive livestock and outdoor agricultural environments.
  • Efficient Flock Sorting: Suitable for separating sheep according to weight, age, breeding group, treatment requirement or marketing category.
  • Compact Drafting Point: Combines stop and sorting functions within a space-efficient handling component.
  • Modular Integration: Compatible with sheep races, sheeted hurdles, forcing pens and dispersal pens.
  • Simple Mechanical Operation: Manual control provides reliable operation without complex electrical or pneumatic systems.
  • Custom Project Configuration: Gate connection, adjoining panels and complete handling layouts can be supplied according to project requirements.

Working Principle / Structural Principle

Sheep enter the drafting point from a single-file handling race. The operator selects the required gate position before the animal reaches the exit.

For straight-through movement, the diverter is positioned so the sheep continues into the forward exit race. For sorting, the diverter redirects the animal into either the left-hand or right-hand dispersal pen.

When individual restraint is required, the stop gate can be closed to temporarily prevent forward movement. This can assist with inspection, identification or coordination with upstream handling equipment.

The three selectable routes enable efficient livestock classification while maintaining continuous sheep flow through the handling system.

Installation & Maintenance

The drafting and stop gate should be installed at the end of the sheep race with one forward exit and two side dispersal routes. The surrounding panels should be arranged to provide clear and unobstructed animal movement into each destination pen.

Where smaller animals are handled, adjoining hurdles can be tapered using compatible base positions to reduce the effective race width and improve animal control.

Before use, confirm that the stop gate and diverter gate move freely through their complete operating range. Connection pins, handles and locking points should be securely positioned.

Routine maintenance should include cleaning manure and debris from hinges and pivots, checking welds and connection fittings, and inspecting galvanized surfaces for damage caused by repeated livestock contact.

Project Cases

A typical three-way drafting layout positions the gate after a sheeted single-file race. Two side dispersal pens receive animals selected for separate groups, while the central route allows other sheep to continue forward into an additional holding or processing area.

For larger commercial installations, the drafting gate can be combined with electronic weighing, EID recording, forcing pens and additional holding areas to create a high-efficiency livestock processing system.

Product FAQ

Q: What makes this a 3-way drafting gate?

A: Sheep can be directed into a left-hand pen, a right-hand pen or allowed to continue straight through the race.

Q: Can the unit also stop an individual sheep?

A: Yes. The integrated stop gate can temporarily prevent the animal from continuing through the race.

Q: Can it be used with lambs?

A: Yes. The drilled base arrangement allows adjoining race hurdles to be tapered where a narrower passage is required for smaller animals.

Q: Where is the gate normally installed?

A: It is typically installed at the discharge end of a single-file sheep handling race.

Q: Can it be integrated with weighing equipment?

A: Yes. The gate can be positioned after compatible livestock weighing or EID equipment to sort animals immediately after processing.

Q: Can SHEWUYOU customize the complete drafting layout?

A: Yes. Gate dimensions, race connections, dispersal pens and related livestock equipment can be configured according to project requirements.
