out-of-crush pneumatic cattle draft gate
Product Overview The Out-of-Crush Pneumatic Cattle Draft Gate is a compact livestock sorting solution designed to use the side access gates of a cattle crush or squeeze chute as powered drafting exits. Pneumatic cylinders open and close the selected gate, allowing cattle to be directed into separate pens without installing a long drafting module in front of the crush.

The configuration is particularly suitable for cattle yards where available length is restricted. It can be integrated with manual controls, remote controls, weighing equipment, EID identification systems or automatic livestock management systems according to project requirements.
Key Features
  • Space-Saving Side Drafting: Cattle exit directly through the side of the crush, reducing the overall length required for the handling system.
  • Pneumatic Gate Operation: Compressed-air cylinders provide rapid powered opening and closing with minimal physical effort.
  • Flexible Sorting Layout: Near-side, off-side or bilateral drafting arrangements can be configured according to the cattle yard layout.
  • Reduced Labour Requirement: Powered operation allows one operator to manage more of the drafting process from a controlled working position.
  • Automatic System Integration: Optional interfaces can work with livestock weighing, EID identification, sensors and programmable sorting controls.
  • Heavy-Duty Construction: Structural steel frames, reinforced hinges and robust gate components are designed for repeated commercial cattle handling.
  • Corrosion Protection: Hot-dip galvanizing or other protective surface treatments are available according to project requirements.
  • Retrofit Potential: Mounting arrangements can be customized for compatible existing cattle crushes and new handling-yard projects.
Structural Components
  • Heavy-duty cattle crush side drafting gate
  • Reinforced steel gate frame and support structure
  • Pneumatic air cylinders and mounting brackets
  • Heavy-duty hinges, pivot points and gate stops
  • Compressed-air hoses, fittings and control valves
  • Manual control console or push-button controls
  • Wireless remote control interface, available upon request
  • Position sensors or livestock detection sensors, optional
  • Electronic weighing and EID interface, optional
Working Principle After an animal enters the cattle crush, the required draft direction is selected manually or determined automatically by the livestock management system. Compressed air activates the pneumatic cylinder connected to the selected side gate.

The gate opens to create a lateral exit from the crush, directing the animal into the designated sorting pen. After the animal clears the gate area, the gate returns to its normal position and the handling system is prepared for the next animal.

When combined with load bars, a weighing indicator and EID equipment, cattle can be drafted according to preset criteria such as live weight, identification number, sex, breed, treatment status or management group.

Installation & Maintenance Installation:
  • Install the cattle crush and drafting structure on a stable, level foundation.
  • Align the side exit with the receiving race or sorting pen before fixing the gate assembly.
  • Connect pneumatic cylinders, air hoses, valves and control equipment according to the system layout.
  • Protect air lines and electrical cables from cattle contact and moving gate components.
  • Test all gate movements, emergency controls and animal-clearance zones before operation.
  • The cattle-yard design should provide a protected operator area because animals can exit directly from the side of the crush.
Maintenance:
  • Regularly inspect pneumatic cylinders, hoses, fittings and valves for leakage or damage.
  • Drain condensation from the compressed-air system as required.
  • Keep hinges, pivots and latches clean and correctly lubricated.
  • Check mounting bolts, gate alignment and structural connections periodically.
  • Remove manure and dirt accumulation around moving components after livestock handling sessions.
  • Keep personnel clear of gate swing areas and pneumatic pinch points during operation and servicing.
Product FAQ Q: What is the main advantage of out-of-crush drafting?
A: The system uses the cattle crush side gates as sorting exits, reducing the additional yard length normally required for an in-line drafting module.

Q: Can the gate be installed on an existing cattle crush?
A: Retrofit solutions are possible for compatible structures. Gate geometry, mounting points and pneumatic requirements should be confirmed before production.

Q: Can the drafting gate operate automatically?
A: Yes. Depending on the project, the pneumatic gate can be connected to sensors, weighing equipment, EID identification and automatic sorting controls.

Q: Can cattle be sorted in several directions?
A: Yes. The available directions depend on the cattle crush and yard layout. Near-side, off-side and straight-through routes can be incorporated where the structure permits.

Q: Is the system suitable for large commercial cattle operations?
A: Yes. Pneumatic drafting is suitable for repeated cattle handling, weighing and grouping operations where labour efficiency and rapid gate operation are important.

Q: What information is required for quotation?
A: Please provide the cattle crush dimensions, desired drafting directions, yard layout, expected cattle size, control method and any requirements for weighing or EID integration.
