Handling Race with Weighing System

Product Name Sheep Handling Race with Weighing System
Product Image sheep handling race with weighing system
Product Overview

The Sheep Handling Race with Weighing System combines a controlled livestock race with an integrated weighing station to support efficient flock management on commercial goat-farming-equipment/" target="_blank" class="keylink">sheep farms. Animals can move directly from the holding area through the race and onto the weighing platform without unnecessary transfer between separate handling areas.

The system can incorporate a sheep weigh crate or platform, electronic load bars, digital weight indicator and optional EID identification equipment. This configuration enables operators to capture individual animal weight while performing routine procedures such as drafting, identification, vaccination, drenching, inspection and breeding-stock selection.

A correctly designed race helps maintain single-file livestock movement and keeps each sheep positioned appropriately over the weighing platform. Compatible entrance and exit gates can temporarily isolate the animal during weighing before releasing it forward or directing it into a selected drafting pen.

The modular design is suitable for new sheep yard projects, existing livestock facility upgrades, portable handling systems and integrated agricultural engineering projects. Race dimensions, weighing components, gate configurations and data-management options can be selected according to project requirements.

Key Features
  • Integrated Weighing Station: Allows sheep to be weighed directly within the handling workflow without moving animals to a separate scale area.
  • Electronic Load Bar Compatibility: Weigh platforms or crates can be mounted on compatible load bars for livestock weight measurement.
  • Digital Weight Indicator: Compatible electronic indicators can display and record individual livestock weight.
  • EID Integration: Optional electronic identification readers can link animal identity with individual weight records.
  • Controlled Single-File Flow: Race panels guide sheep through the weighing station in an orderly sequence.
  • Drafting Capability: Compatible manual or automatic gates can sort animals after weighing according to management criteria.
  • Adjustable Race Configuration: Width and panel arrangements can be adapted to sheep size, breed and flock-management requirements.
  • Durable Farm Construction: Galvanized steel or corrosion-resistant livestock equipment materials are available for intensive agricultural use.
  • Modular Installation: Can be integrated with holding pens, forcing areas, treatment stations and drafting yards.
  • Commercial Farm Compatibility: Suitable for permanent sheep yards, portable systems and large livestock management projects.

Working Principle / Structural Principle

Sheep move from a holding or forcing pen into the narrow handling race. The side panels maintain a controlled single-file flow and guide each animal toward the weighing station.

When the sheep stands completely on the weighing platform, load bars or electronic sensors detect the applied load and transmit the measurement to the compatible digital indicator. Where EID equipment is installed, the animal's electronic identification number can be associated with the recorded weight.

After the measurement is completed, the exit gate releases the animal forward. Where a drafting system is installed, the animal can be directed into a selected pen according to weight, weight gain, breeding group, treatment requirement or other flock-management criteria.

This integrated workflow reduces repeated animal movement and allows weighing, identification and drafting operations to be completed within one livestock handling line.

Installation & Maintenance

The weighing station should be installed on a firm, stable and level base so the weigh platform and load bars are not affected by uneven loading or contact with adjacent race components. The platform must remain mechanically isolated from structures that could interfere with accurate weight measurement.

Race panels should be aligned with the weighing crate to create a smooth livestock approach and exit. Gates should open freely without contacting the weighing platform or transmitting external forces to the load cells.

Electrical cables, indicator connections and EID components should be routed away from animal traffic and protected from moisture, manure and mechanical damage according to the equipment manufacturer's instructions.

Routine maintenance includes cleaning the weigh platform, inspecting load-bar mounting points, checking gates and panel connections, protecting electrical connectors and verifying weighing-system calibration according to the selected indicator and load-cell manufacturer's procedures.

Project Cases

A typical commercial system places the weighing crate between a single-file handling race and a drafting gate. Sheep enter from the forcing pen, are individually weighed and then move directly into the appropriate exit pen.

For breeding and performance-recording operations, an EID reader can be installed near the weighing position so individual electronic identification and body weight are recorded together.

Larger sheep farms can combine the weighing race with automatic drafting, animal treatment stations and digital flock-management systems to create an integrated livestock processing line.

Product FAQ

Q: What is the advantage of integrating weighing into the sheep race?

A: Sheep can be weighed as part of their normal handling route, reducing additional movement and improving overall flock-processing efficiency.

Q: Can the weighing system record individual sheep data?

A: Yes. Compatible digital indicators and EID equipment can be configured to associate individual identification with weight records.

Q: Can sheep be drafted automatically according to weight?

A: Yes. Compatible automatic drafting systems can direct animals according to programmed weight ranges or other supported management criteria.

Q: Can existing sheep yards be upgraded with a weighing race?

A: Yes. Modular weigh crates and race components can often be incorporated into suitable existing handling layouts.

Q: Is an EID reader mandatory?

A: No. Basic weighing can be performed without electronic identification. EID can be added when individual animal tracking and automated record management are required.
