Chemical Air Scrubber for Manure Processing

The Chemical Air Scrubber for Manure Processing is a wet exhaust-air treatment system intended for manure handling, solid-liquid separation, composting and digestate drying facilities. It brings contaminated process air into contact with recirculating, chemically controlled wash water to capture ammonia before the treated air is discharged. The system can be engineered around the airflow, contaminant load, available footprint and ventilation layout of a commercial pig farm or centralized manure processing plant.

A typical arrangement includes an inlet plenum, packed contact section, spray headers and nozzles, recirculation sump and pump, chemical dosing equipment, mist eliminator, inspection access, outlet connection and control panel. Ductwork, exhaust fans, structural supports and a steel structure building interface are coordinated with the project design.

Extracted air passes through the wetted contact section while wash liquid is distributed over the packing. Ammonia dissolves into the liquid and reacts with the dosed acid. The mist eliminator limits liquid carryover before air reaches the outlet. Wash-water pH, recirculation and controlled bleed-off are managed according to the process design; spent liquid requires handling appropriate to its composition and local requirements.

Suitable for enclosed manure processing areas, separated solids handling, manure and digestate dryers, composting facilities, and exhaust-air treatment associated with large livestock operations. For process air containing substantial dust or mixed odor compounds, the complete treatment train should be selected from site-specific air measurements.

Air inlet and outlet orientation, module arrangement, packing access, pretreatment, monitoring points and integration with existing ventilation can be customized. Outdoor equipment protection and supporting structures can be designed according to local climate and farm conditions.

The scrubber can be positioned beside a processing building or incorporated into a dedicated equipment area, subject to foundation, drainage, service access and duct-routing requirements. During operation, personnel should inspect spray nozzles, packing, pumps and the mist eliminator, and monitor wash-water condition and dosing controls. Maintenance intervals depend on the dust load, water quality and operating schedule.

Can it treat manure dryer exhaust?
Yes. Dryer airflow, temperature, moisture and particulate loading must be reviewed before sizing the scrubber and any upstream pretreatment.

Will one chemical stage remove every odor?
Chemical scrubbing is commonly selected for ammonia control. Other odor compounds may require additional treatment stages based on measured inlet-air composition.
