Product Name KAIXIN UT01 PIG BACKFAT THICKNESS SCANNER
Product Image Kaixin UT01 Pig Backfat Thickness Scanner
Product Overview The Kaixin UT01 Pig Backfat Thickness Scanner is a compact ultrasonic measuring instrument designed for fast and non-invasive evaluation of backfat thickness in pigs. Its integrated handheld design combines the main unit and probe into one portable device, allowing farm personnel to perform measurements efficiently with one hand.

The UT01 is especially suitable for sow body-condition monitoring, gilt selection, feeding management and commercial pig breeding programs. Measurement results are displayed directly as numerical values, eliminating the need to interpret conventional ultrasound images.

Key Features
  • Integrated Handheld Design: The main unit and ultrasonic probe are combined into one compact device for convenient field use.
  • One-Hand Operation: The operator can hold the scanner and press the Test button with the thumb for quick measurement.
  • Three-Layer Backfat Measurement: One-key operation supports measurement of up to three backfat layers.
  • 4–35 mm Measurement Range: Suitable for routine backfat evaluation in pigs and breeding sows.
  • ±1 mm Accuracy: Provides practical numerical data for farm body-condition management.
  • 99 Measurement Records: Stores measurement data by serial number for convenient comparison and management.
  • Sunlight-Readable Display: Digital tube display helps operators read results clearly in outdoor farm environments.
  • Protected Probe Structure: Fully enclosed probe design helps protect against water spray and splashing during routine use.
  • USB Charging: Built-in rechargeable battery supports convenient charging through the USB interface.
  • Automatic Power Saving: The unit automatically switches off after approximately two minutes without operation.
Working Principle The UT01 uses ultrasonic pulses to measure the thickness of fat layers beneath the pig's skin. When the probe is placed against the measurement area with suitable coupling medium, ultrasound waves travel through the skin and fat tissue.

Echoes are generated at tissue interfaces and returned to the probe. The instrument analyzes the echo positions, identifies the backfat layers and calculates their thickness. The result is then shown directly on the digital display in millimeters.

Installation & Maintenance
  • Fully charge the scanner before routine farm measurements.
  • Select a consistent anatomical measurement point according to the farm's sow body-condition management protocol.
  • Apply sufficient ultrasound coupling gel or suitable coupling medium to eliminate air between the probe and skin.
  • Place the probe firmly and evenly against the animal without excessive pressure.
  • Press the Test button and wait for the numerical measurement result.
  • Repeat measurements at the same location when tracking changes in an individual animal.
  • Clean the probe surface after use according to farm biosecurity procedures.
  • Avoid immersing the complete scanner in water even though the probe structure is designed to resist spray and splashing.
  • Use the wrist lanyard during operation to reduce the risk of accidental dropping.
  • Store the scanner in a clean, dry and protected environment when not in use.
Product FAQ

Q: What is the Kaixin UT01 mainly used for?
A: It is designed for fast and non-invasive measurement of backfat thickness in pigs, especially breeding sows and gilts.

Q: What is the measurement range?
A: The specified backfat measurement range is 4 to 35 mm.

Q: What is the measurement accuracy?
A: The specified measurement accuracy is approximately ±1 mm under proper operating conditions.

Q: Can it measure multiple backfat layers?
A: Yes. The UT01 supports one-key measurement of up to three backfat layers.

Q: Does the operator need to interpret an ultrasound image?
A: No. The instrument calculates the measurement and displays the backfat thickness directly as a numerical value.

Q: Can measurement records be stored?
A: Yes. The unit can store up to 99 measurement records by serial number, and the stored data remains available after shutdown.

Q: Why should sow backfat be measured regularly?
A: Backfat data provides an objective reference for evaluating sow body condition and helps support feeding, breeding and reproductive management decisions.

Q: Is ultrasound coupling gel required?
A: Yes. A suitable coupling medium should be used to remove air between the probe and skin and improve measurement stability.

Q: Is the UT01 suitable for commercial pig farms?
A: Yes. Its compact size, one-hand operation, direct numerical reading and stored measurement records make it suitable for routine sow body-condition monitoring in commercial swine farms.
