Product Overview

The Volumetric Sow Feed Dispenser is designed for controlled individual dry-feed allocation in mating, gestation and farrowing units. Installed below an overhead dry-feeding line, each dispenser measures a preset volume of feed before releasing it to the sow trough.

The transparent impact-resistant container provides clear visual monitoring of feed level and includes an easy-to-read dosing scale. Feed quantity can be adjusted without removing feed from the dispenser, helping simplify daily sow management.

Single-feed and dual-feed inlet configurations are available, allowing one dispenser to work with one ration or two feed types according to the feeding program. Manual, row-operated or automatic release systems can be configured for commercial pig farms.

Key Features
  • Accurate volumetric dosing for individual sow feeding.
  • Transparent container provides immediate visual feed-level control.
  • Clear graduated scale simplifies ration adjustment.
  • Stepless feed-volume adjustment in standard configurations.
  • Impact-resistant plastic construction for commercial pig-house use.
  • Suitable for common dry-feed pipe diameters.
  • Single or dual feed-line inlet configurations available.
  • Dual-inlet version supports two feed types from one dispenser.
  • Precision-molded outlet helps reduce unnecessary feed dust.
  • Individual shut-off prevents selected dispensers from releasing feed.
  • Side access flap simplifies supplementation and cleaning.
  • Manual or automatic row release available according to project requirements.
Structural Components
  • Transparent Feed Container: Holds the measured dry-feed ration and permits visual inspection.
  • Graduated Dosing Scale: Indicates the selected volumetric feed quantity.
  • Adjustment Mechanism: Changes the effective dispenser volume according to the sow feeding program.
  • Feed Line Connection: Connects the dispenser to the overhead dry-feed transport pipe.
  • Single or Dual Inlet Top: Allows connection to one or two feed circuits.
  • Outlet Funnel: Directs the measured ration into the drop pipe or trough.
  • Release Flap: Opens the dispenser when the feeding cycle is activated.
  • Opening Wire: Connects multiple dispensers for manual or centralized row release.
  • Integrated Wire Holder: Keeps the release cable correctly positioned.
  • Side Access Flap: Provides access for supplements, inspection and cleaning.
Working Principle

Feed from the overhead distribution line enters the transparent dispenser. The adjustable internal volume determines how much feed is retained for the next feeding cycle.

When the release mechanism is activated, the bottom flap opens and the measured ration flows through the outlet funnel and drop pipe into the individual sow trough. After discharge, the flap closes and the dispenser is refilled during the next feed-line cycle.

Individual release wires can be disconnected where a sow should temporarily receive no feed, while centralized manual or automatic release systems allow an entire row of dispensers to be operated together.

Installation & Maintenance

Installation:

  • Confirm feed-line diameter, sow-stall spacing and trough position before installation.
  • Install the overhead dry-feed pipe at the specified barn elevation.
  • Mount one dispenser above each individual sow feeding position.
  • Connect single or dual feed inlets according to the feeding program.
  • Align the outlet funnel and drop pipe directly above the sow trough.
  • Install the release wire and integrated wire holders along the row.
  • Connect the manual or automatic opening mechanism.
  • Set each dispenser to the required initial feed volume.
  • Run several filling and release cycles before introducing animals.

Maintenance:

  • Check the transparent scale and feed level during routine inspections.
  • Inspect release wires, flaps and outlet funnels for unrestricted movement.
  • Remove accumulated feed dust from the container and feed outlet.
  • Use the side access flap for inspection and internal cleaning.
  • Remove the container when thorough washing is required.
  • Inspect feed-pipe connections and suspension hardware periodically.
  • Check automatic release drives and cables according to the maintenance schedule.
  • Verify dosing settings after changes in feed density or formulation.
Product FAQ

Q: What is a volumetric sow feed dispenser?
A: It is an adjustable container installed below a dry-feed line that measures a preset volume of feed before releasing it into an individual sow trough.

Q: What is the standard reference capacity?
A: The standard Vissing-type reference dispenser has a volume of 7.5 L.

Q: What feed-pipe sizes are supported?
A: Common reference systems are available for Ø38, Ø48, Ø50 and Ø60 mm feed pipes.

Q: Can the feed quantity be adjusted while the dispenser contains feed?
A: Yes. Comparable dispensers allow ration adjustment whether the container is full or empty.

Q: Can two different feeds enter the same dispenser?
A: Yes. A dual-inlet top can connect two feed circuits, allowing two feed types to be supplied through one dispenser.

Q: Can one sow be prevented from receiving feed?
A: Yes. The individual release connection can be isolated so a selected dispenser does not discharge during the row feeding cycle.

Q: Can the dispensers be released automatically?
A: Yes. Manual and automatic row-opening systems are available according to the dry-feeding system design.

Q: What information is required for a quotation?
A: Please provide sow numbers, production stage, feed type, required dispenser volume, feed-pipe diameter, stall spacing, release method, barn layout and project location.
