Newborn Lamb Weighing Sling

Product Name Newborn Lamb Weighing Sling
Product Image newborn lamb weighing sling
Product Overview

The Newborn Lamb Weighing Sling is a lightweight livestock handling accessory designed for weighing and short-distance carrying of newborn and young lambs or goat kids. The sling supports the animal around the belly while allowing the legs to remain free, providing a practical connection between the animal and a compatible hanging scale.

Commercial designs typically use strong, soft fabric or mesh combined with reinforced webbing handles and an adjustable chest restraint. This structure helps keep the lamb centered during lifting and weighing while allowing quick fitting during busy lambing periods.

The sling is suitable for commercial sheep farms, goat farms, breeding centers, lambing barns, veterinary work areas and livestock management projects where birth weight and subsequent growth records form part of routine flock monitoring.

Key Features
  • Designed for Lamb Weighing: Suitable for connection to compatible digital or mechanical hanging scales.
  • Supportive Belly Panel: Cradles the animal around the abdominal area while keeping the legs unobstructed.
  • Adjustable Chest Restraint: Helps accommodate lambs and goat kids of different body sizes.
  • Quick Fitting: Simple sling construction allows operators to position and remove the harness efficiently during routine newborn processing.
  • Soft Contact Surface: Fabric or mesh construction provides a more comfortable support surface than rigid lifting components.
  • Reinforced Carrying Straps: Long webbing handles provide secure lifting points and convenient attachment to a scale hook.
  • Compact and Portable: Easy to keep with scales, ear-tagging tools and other lambing equipment.
  • Easy to Clean: Fabric construction can be cleaned according to farm hygiene procedures between animal groups.
  • Commercial Supply Options: Dimensions, webbing configuration, material and packaging can be customized according to project requirements.
Structural Components
Belly Support Panel Soft fabric or mesh section positioned beneath the lamb to distribute support across the body.
Reinforced Webbing High-strength straps reinforce the sling and transfer the lifting load to the suspension handles.
Suspension Handles Extended straps join above the animal for carrying or attachment to a compatible hanging scale.
Chest Support Strap Adjustable restraint helps prevent the animal from sliding forward during lifting.
Fastening System Hook-and-loop or clip-type closure depending on selected configuration.
Working Principle / Structural Principle

The belly panel is positioned beneath the lamb and the suspension straps are raised along both sides of the body. The chest strap is adjusted to help keep the animal centered and reduce forward movement.

For weighing, the upper handles are connected securely to the hook of a compatible hanging scale. When the sling is lifted clear of the floor, the animal's weight is transferred through the reinforced webbing to the scale.

The operator should confirm that the lamb is centered and properly supported before lifting. If the animal begins to slide or becomes incorrectly positioned, it should be lowered immediately and the sling readjusted before weighing continues.

Installation & Maintenance

Weighing Procedure:

  1. Inspect the sling, webbing, stitching and fastening components before use.
  2. Place the belly support centrally beneath the lamb.
  3. Bring the suspension handles upward along both sides of the animal.
  4. Adjust the chest restraint so the lamb remains securely centered without excessive pressure.
  5. Attach both suspension handles securely to the hanging-scale hook.
  6. Lift the lamb smoothly until it is clear of the floor and allow the scale reading to stabilize.
  7. Keep the animal suspended only for the time required to obtain the measurement.
  8. Lower the lamb gently and remove the sling before recording or processing the next animal.

Maintenance:

  • Remove manure, bedding and other contamination after use.
  • Wash the sling according to the selected fabric manufacturer's care requirements.
  • Allow the sling to dry completely before storage.
  • Inspect stitching and webbing regularly for abrasion, cuts or loose seams.
  • Check adjustable straps and closures for correct operation.
  • Do not use a damaged sling for suspended weighing.
  • Store the sling in a clean, dry lambing-equipment area away from chemicals and sharp tools.
Product FAQ

Q1: What is a newborn lamb weighing sling used for?

It supports a lamb during suspended weighing with a compatible hanging scale and can also assist with short-distance carrying during newborn processing.

Q2: Can the sling be used for goat kids?
