Product Name Brass Probang Cup for Cattle and Sheep OPF Sampling
Product Image Brass Probang Cup for Cattle and Sheep Oropharyngeal Fluid Sampling
Product Overview

The Brass Probang Cup is a reusable veterinary sampling instrument designed for collecting oropharyngeal fluid, commonly abbreviated as OPF, from cattle and sheep. It is used by trained veterinary and animal-health personnel for livestock disease surveillance, epidemiological investigation and laboratory sample collection.

Manufactured from durable brass with a smooth rounded sampling cup, the instrument is available in separate cattle and sheep sizes. The long probe provides access to the oropharyngeal region, where fluid and superficial cellular material can be collected for subsequent laboratory examination.

Product Gallery Available in large cattle and small sheep configurations, the product features a long brass probe, smooth cylindrical sampling cup and rounded working surfaces. The cattle model uses a larger cup and longer probe, while the sheep model is smaller for easier use in small ruminants.
Key Features
  • Professional OPF Sampling: Designed specifically for collecting oropharyngeal fluid from cattle and sheep.
  • Brass Construction: Durable metal structure provides good rigidity and long service life.
  • Smooth Sampling Cup: Rounded surfaces help reduce unnecessary tissue trauma during professional sampling.
  • Two Animal Sizes: Separate cattle and sheep versions are available for appropriate anatomical fit.
  • Long Probe Design: Provides sufficient reach to access the oropharyngeal sampling area.
  • Reusable Instrument: Can be cleaned, disinfected and reused according to veterinary biosecurity protocols.
  • Manual Operation: Requires no electricity, battery or external power source.
  • Field and Laboratory Support: Suitable for farms, veterinary stations, research programs and disease surveillance teams.
  • Diagnostic Sample Collection: Collected OPF can be submitted for appropriate laboratory testing such as molecular or virological analysis.
Working Principle

After the animal is properly restrained, the sterilized probang cup is introduced through the mouth by trained personnel and advanced toward the oropharyngeal region. The sampling cup is gently manipulated against the appropriate mucosal surfaces to collect oropharyngeal fluid and superficial cellular material.

The instrument is then withdrawn and the collected sample is transferred into a suitable specimen container and transport medium according to the applicable laboratory protocol. The probang cup itself does not provide a diagnosis; laboratory testing is required to interpret the collected sample.

Installation & Maintenance
  • Select the cattle or sheep model according to the animal being sampled.
  • Inspect the probe and sampling cup for deformation, cracks, sharp edges or contamination before use.
  • Clean and disinfect the instrument according to the approved sampling protocol before each animal.
  • Restrain the animal properly before introducing the sampling instrument.
  • Do not force the probe if abnormal resistance is encountered.
  • Transfer collected material promptly into the specified sample container and transport medium.
  • Thoroughly clean and disinfect the probang cup between animals to reduce cross-contamination.
  • Rinse away disinfectant residues before subsequent sampling when required by the protocol.
  • Dry the instrument completely after cleaning before storage.
  • Use only by trained veterinary, laboratory or animal-health personnel familiar with oropharyngeal sampling procedures.
Product FAQ

Q: What does OPF mean?
OPF means oropharyngeal fluid, a sample collected from the oropharyngeal region of an animal for veterinary laboratory examination.

Q: What is a probang cup used for?
It is used to collect oropharyngeal fluid and superficial cellular material from cattle or sheep for laboratory testing and disease surveillance.

Q: Is this product used for foot-and-mouth disease testing?
Yes. Probang cups are widely used to collect OPF samples for foot-and-mouth disease surveillance and carrier investigations. The collected specimen must be tested by an appropriate laboratory method.

Q: Are the cattle and sheep models the same size?
No. The cattle version is approximately 92 cm long with a 2.8 cm diameter sampling cup, while the sheep version is approximately 74 cm long with a 1.5 cm diameter cup.

Q: What material is the sampling instrument made from?
The current SHEWUYOU product is manufactured from brass.

Q: Is the probang cup reusable?
Yes. It is a reusable veterinary instrument and must be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected between animals according to the applicable biosecurity protocol.

Q: Does the sampling cup diagnose disease directly?
No. It is a specimen-collection instrument. Diagnosis requires appropriate laboratory examination of the collected sample.

Q: Who should operate the probang cup?
It should be used by trained veterinary, animal-health or laboratory personnel because correct insertion, sampling and disinfection procedures are important for animal safety and sample quality.
