The system typically comprises a rigid base frame, single-animal weighing platform, load cells, entrance and exit gates, two-way selection gate, side panels, controller and connections to the surrounding penning. Gate actuation and the control interface are specified for the project.

As a pig enters the scale, the entrance closes to isolate it for weighing. The controller compares the measured weight with a preset sorting threshold. After weighing, the exit and selection gates open in sequence to direct the pig along the assigned route. The cycle then resets for the next animal. Pen layout and gate timing are planned to maintain orderly animal flow.
