After the electric dehorner reaches the required operating temperature, the heated copper tip is positioned around the horn bud. Controlled heat cauterizes the horn-producing tissue surrounding the bud, preventing normal horn growth when the procedure is performed correctly at the appropriate age. Disbudding is a veterinary livestock procedure and should be performed by trained personnel using appropriate animal restraint, pain management, hygiene and postoperative observation in accordance with local animal welfare requirements. |
